That sounds like a good plan. I guess a good test would then be if I lend my key to the effort, as it works. So I presume the key is coded for the central locking using the method I have seen described in a couple of places - something to do with turning to position 1 in the ignition for 20...

The buttons do still feel quite sharp - I have a puma and theres no difference in the feel of the key operation - but mine works. Also, thats an expensive key to replace - are there any other ideas before we go with that?

Ok, so things I note from further research was; The Puma appears to me to require the pink antifreeze because it is Silicate free, with Organic Acid Technology as the main corrosion inhibitor. Give that the Ford dealer here wasn't open when I needed to get the job done, I've gone with Halfords...
