I agree with checking for air leaks, I assume the puma has an PCV? the tubing should be checked and the valve should have a rattle. When was it last serviced? check the air filter and maf sensor if it has one.
Pity you're not over here in Dublin as I would love that. It's impossible to find a good 1.7 over here. They are mostly 1.4 and 1.6. Best of luck with the sale.
