    Lost key. Ecu swap.

The transponder in the key must match the ECU, unless you could also buy a barrel (and remove the old one which without the key is graft) then you're no further ahead. Also as above - you need the correct ECU.

Less than 6000 left in the UK

When I started the parts business I could go on the insurer lists and choose a car to use for engine conversions, you'd have the choice of mileage, ECU and normally one in a close enough depot to go and get it. Now you're lucky if there are any on there and as for sensible mileage, forget it...

    P reg puma decisions

Probably worth finding out exactly how early it is, post the reg and I'll be able to tell you what day it was built and therefore its rough position in the production period.

    'Cheap-n-Cheerful' Thunder... or expensive Millenium?

They're all rusty, I'd be buying the cheap Thunder and putting a few grand in to it and having a 2 grand Thunder that's actually going to be a good car. Unlike the more expensive ones which will be identical underneath but cost you five times as much.

Heater fan speed not working on "1"

Stalks can come out without taking the steering wheel off. Heater fault sounds like the resistor but as posted resistor failure normally loses you 1,2 and 3 so could also be the panel. Resistor cheaper and easier to swap in to test, see if anyone local can meet up and lend you theirs for five...

Best place to get a 98 fuel pump new

I can't supply fuel pumps, don't deal used any longer as I can't say how long they'll last. Most fail on the shelf. They really don't like being out of the car so not really possible to stock. As for new - who knows - best solution is to strip down the assembly and fit just the pump motor...

    Heater to engine hoses

Verify whether its the hose or the heater control valve but yes, NCC for new parts. I normally stock them used but throw away a lot as they're rare in good order now.

    Will this fit?

There's no flange on the original 1.7 system, might sleeve over if you cut the flange off but no guarantees your system has been cut in the same place if you've had a back box previously. Or indeed that the pipe diameters are close enough to sleeve.

    fuse box location

That sounds like the key blade is spinning inside the plastic. Heater problem is heater control valve or the panel under the radio, needs a voltage check on the HCV to diagnose.
