    Well, that was interesting. Thanks for your input yippeekiay and grogee - you're right it was a 12 point 8mm hex, I just didn't have one. So, bought one and then an 8mm spline socket which was a tighter fit. So, I removed the bearing with the engine in the car and they looks a bit poor! So...
