Re: 2002 Thunder - Vimto

Enjoy using the Puma again! Definitely have been! The past couple of weekends it's been down to the workshop, some 78 miles each way through Kent and West Sussex's country A and B roads. I've ticked a few jobs of the list, stripped the lights down to clean and demist them and uprated/renewed the bu...

Re: 2002 Thunder - Vimto

It's been a funny couple of years for 'Vimto'. We did a little bit of work to it and basically just enjoyed it up to Feb 2014 when it half unexpectedly failed it's MOT. Not so much unexpected that it failed, but when I drove it back to the workshop to patch the sills I didn't expect the rear undersi...

Re: Would You Buy It or Not?

Out of interest, what is thought of 'high' mileages on the 1.7? Obviously it depends mostly on how well it has been looked after, but as a track car it will take a beating so needs to be decent to start with. If a 1.7 has been well looked after and pulls strongly, but has 130k on it, is there anythi...

Re: My Puma 1.7, more than a year on (A works in progress)

Great work on the Puma and some nice fabricating on the carrier. This is going in my inspiration pile for a track Puma as I'd like to deal with all the little bits of rot as you have. Also liking the classics, I have a project of my own but being a former classic Escort owner you might not approve. ...

What is 'the FRP mod'?

Speedo over-reading is normal on all cars. Nothing to worry about.

Re: Would You Buy It or Not?

Hi Dan, that's great. As it happens you gave me a pretty good price anyway so if the vehicle was a Cat C, would the quote have come out the same (same vehicle)? Puma Babe I'd be very interested in that. I'm in no rush to get one as to be honest it's not the best time for me, but when you come to sel...

Re: im confused

Nothing's going to change it, it's designed to be a nippy fun little coupe and I guess they used shorter gear ratios to add to that effect. Mine is the same, which is why it's used for short journeys/fun cross country journeys and I have a big tank for cruising in comfort on motorways. A service and...

Re: Would You Buy It or Not?

Might be able to get down there and see it tomorrow but unlikely, and it's on an auction that ends tomorrow night. Since I viewed it this afternoon the price has more than doubled and is now just under what I was going to go to, will just have to see how it goes. I don't mind taking a bit of the pun...

Would You Buy It or Not?

Went to see a V reg 1.7 earlier for something to turn into a track car. I've got a price in my mind, but I'm unsure as to how sound it is mechanically, so am looking for some advice. Body work is great, better than our thunder in fact. The drivers arch is all that needs doing, passenger side doesn't...

Re: Silver Thunder - impulse buy

How much did it cost you to get the sills done if you don't mind me asking? Ours look as bad maybe worse, I've had a quote as an addition to the arches but I'm wondering whether to do them myself in the summer. Silver paint scares me though

I too was thinking about doing some hillclimbs, and just so happens there's a £200 Puma for sale in my town but just haven't got the time nor money. Are you running in the A2 class I guess? What are the rules for car mods? I couldn't find any details.

I think on the right Puma they could look good though. Tidy puma, Those Zetec S alloys can be a pain to clean! :D They're not Zetec S, th...

Re: 2002 Thunder - Vimto

Got up early today and sanded the other headlight, also used some trim tape to tape the number plates to the car, it was annoying me that they didn't follow the contour of the bumpers - sorted http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh14/oli8925/Ford%20Puma%20Thunder/P1030639.jpg And finished the front c...

Re: Puma Classic Status

Depends if you mean classic status or desirable and valuable. A 1980's Nissan Bluebird is a classic but it's still not desirable and valuable, yet an 80's Cosworth for example is. Any Ford has a good chance as Ford has such a large and dedicated following, although the non-sporty models tend to take...

Got a few little bits done here and there, started by swapping the front speakers for some decent 5.25" Phonocar comps I got a couple of years ago for the Viva. Bought a spare pair of mirror covers off Ian G and attacked them with a holesaw for the tweeters Everything ready to go in http://i252.phot...

 Don't worry, the spokes are staying, they're for the grey bus behind it. Just thought I'd see while they were off the car as they're 4x108, 16x6.5, offset's wrong though.

Workshop Share Around Tunbridge Wells

I'm looking to see what interest there is in a workshop share around the local area of Tunbridge Wells. I just need somewhere sheltered to weld with power, lights and space around the car to get full access to it. I've not had a look at what's available yet or cost, but I'm pretty sure I won't be ab...

Re: 2002 Thunder - Vimto

It passed, on the road for another year. Got all the work done and it was awful to drive, obviously the new wishbones/bushes and strut mounts had tightened everything up and thrown the tracking way out (I think it was out a bit anyway because it was very twitchy and not pleasant to drive enthusiasti...
