ST170 Puma with 6 speed box

Good to see an update on this so soon Nick, IIRC on Facebook you mentioned about the ST170 being relatively easy to take to 200, have you done that...or is that an update to come?

362631 Nope, relax, you don't have the problem you think you have... This is a job you can do yourself - don't use that gel though, you want a thin rust convertor here, such as Vactan... I'm not keen on slapping fibreglass over previously rusted areas with holes in them, as it is then well nigh imp...

362595 Any other suggestions also welcome. :ok: I'll keep this short, as I'm in a rush - use a plastic pipette to squirt the Vactan... Was in that area a few weeks back and my arch stuff is looking as good as the day I did it 3 years ago. Cheers Frank, :ok: looks like I need to sort it with new met...

362598 I am affraid that if you brush it hard enough, the rust will evaporate to nothing and you will see holes. That needs welding in the fresh material... So sorry about bad news, don't kill the messanger Hi Sinisa, thanks for the advice, no worries at all about shooting the messenger... though t...

If it's just the water pump why all the rest, or is it due for changing anyway? The timing belt is overpriced anyway I'd say...here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Genuine-Ford-Puma-1-7-Zetec-Timing-Cam-Belt-Kit-1997-2001-Main-Dealer-/291001321823?fits=Car+Make%3AFord%7CModel%3APuma&hash=item43c1...

Sounds & looks more like the system they have in Spain, mind they were also a LOT stricter over mods etc. Very difficult to get them through without engineer reports etc. and sometimes even that wouldn't suffice. Lots of bureaucracy. Having had to put cars through our MOT & Spanish ITV I'd r...

Well, lately I've felt like a contestant on Strictly Dumb Dancing as it's been a case of one step forwards, two back, one forward. You may remember I had a cambelt change that was something of a poor job and so needed re-timing by another mechanic? Well..... On the front foot, I had a trip to Barnsl...

Bought myself a puma and need some advice

362199 Thanks a lot for the reply. It's nice to see an active forum. I was wondering, is there any how to guides/tutorials on how to check the above things you listed. Like in terms of if they need to be changed and what to look for? Do you know of any YouTube channels or forum member guides? If I ...

Hi all my fellow puma owners!

362162 Suppose I should add my last car I put any time into was a '90 spec Mk2 Golf GTI that I spent literally three years working on and all my spare money. Worried that this might end up being the same. :-( Are Pumas generally OK to live with? It all depends on your needs & expectations. I'd ...

Hi all my fellow puma owners!

Cambelt, water pump and idle tensioner usually the three & aux belt relatively cheap so might as well at the same time, the other stuff is getting more involved for me and am sure others better qualified can advise on. Be aware that it ain't a simple job if you are thinking of doing it yourself,...

Timing problems

Having issues with Puma's timing. It keeps jumping on the advance/inlet side. It has played up before, was sorted and ran for a few weeks no problems but on a 6hr long round trip (in which it ran perfectly) right at the end it started suddenly running rough. Timing checked and it had jumped a...
