Speed sensor

Hi

Can any one tell me where the speed sensor is located and what the colour of the wires are for a 1400 puma?

I want to connect a Monit speed sensor interface for my rally car.

I need to connect to the power, ground and signal, hence wanting to know the colours.

Thanks

Puma 1400 Rally Build

Picture from last Friday at the North West Stages Rally in Blackpool, waiting for the sun to go down to start the rally in the dark.... Was anyone else there?? We made it through the night stages on the Friday night and halfway through Saturday but unfortunately retired on stage 15 with suspension d...

polycarbonate windows

I just used a paper template on the rear existing screen, marked and cut a sheet of polycarbonate, then used silicon and nuts and bolts to fix it in place. The hardest part was removing the existing glass screen, after a lot of cursing I ended up getting a windscreen fitter to remove it. The passeng...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Wow I bet that was an experience. I may well have been spectating the event you entered! Was it the Lombard then? I remember it running in kielder forrest, Chatsworth, Trentham gardens etc, but I don't know if I am mixing up some of the routes from different years. Yeah it would be great to see some...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Thanks, I've spent some hours on it learning as go. Just need to get some time on stage. It's encouraging that there are a few puma rally cars on the go, we just need more to take the plunge. I guess the 240 is rear wheel drive? I bet that was fun! I've done a few sprints and hill climbs, enjoyed th...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Well done for finishing, Johnny! Good to get the seat time in the car. We had a fuel starvation issue too - I'll be looking into getting a baffled tank. I'm not going to be offended in you getting different springs, honest! But I would like to understand why you are changing them? Was the handling ...

Re: Rally car reshell

Great to see you out. Are you concentrating on tarmac single venues? Or is this just to get some miles under your belt?

Is the damage just limited to the beam and has it affected the mounting points for the beam?

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Use a hot air gun and scrapper to remove the dead rubber from your soft tyres  Keep the soft tyres for when its cold or wet. 8-) Thanks for the top tip. A lot has already cleared off the tyres driving down the motorway. I sold my main car and had to go to a stag doo in Wales so I took the ...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Glad you managed to get to the end safely on your first event. At least they were all manageable issues that you had during the day. Noticed on one of your pictures that your exhaust clamps are with the nuts pointing down. I would have them facing the side slightly facing up if you can as the way t...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Sorry only just got round to posting an update…. The rally at Anglesey was a bit of a mixed bag. We always intended that it would just be an opportunity to put the Puma through its paces but then when it comes to it your competitive nature always takes over. First hurdle was getting it through scrut...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Thanks for that Barry

I am going to do the same too but I'm going to leave the welding to the pros though.

Is there any reason why the join couldn't be cut and welded flat to the arch to get the greatest clearance?

Great thread btw, you've put a lot of work in.

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Since getting my softer springs back and fitting them, I've been playing around with the ride heights. Initially I set them at standard FRP height. I then spoke to GAZ who said the travel I'd measured should be okay. I then took it for a blast over the moors and went down a severe dip where the susp...

Not knowing what the frp ride height is, what is your total height and do you run it with equal front and rear height?

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Thats great info Andrew. It confirms that we are all in the right area. what ride height do you intend to run for tarmac? Graeme, what height will you be running? I have started to put the car back together with the new springs but the fronts have been difficult as I have had to compress the helper ...

Re: Rally car reshell

Springs aside, did you get some good feedback for setting up the car? I can't decide whether to do a track day to spend time altering the settings or whether to jump straight into a single venue rally and play around with the settings between stages. Have you decided on any events yet? and are you g...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

That's good to know Graeme.

My new springs have got to be better than my originals.

GAZ swapped them FOC as they were unused and they specified the originals and agreed that they weren't ideal.

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

On yours and Graeme's advice I'm going to fit softer springs. Oh blimey... Oh no, my new springs have just arrived! ....after our discussion on here and speaking to GAZ, I went for 225 front and 145 rear, both with helper springs. so do you think that these will still be too hard? What made you thi...

Re: Door panels

I've fitted thin sheets of polycarb on the doors. I put reverse puma graphics on the back of the panel and then sprayed it gloss black. You can see them half way down my thread "puma 1400 rally build" on the first page. I did have to disc cut all the metal sections out of the door that wer...
