First Rally!

djd wrote:Qr Bbpost Hi. Could you measure the ride height of your front & rear for me?
Measured from the centre of the wheel arches down to the ground.
Thanks
Darrell

Hi Darrell I can as soon as I go over to my storage place but probably won't be for a while .

Re: WHY THE WORLD NEEDS A NEW FORD PUMA :-)

I personal think manufactures are just not interested in small fun cars . Turbo cars are boring and lazy to drive compared to a revy n/a .One of the reasons I got my Twingo rs is that it is like the puma in many ways apart from the rust. Small ,light ,fun ,cheep to run and mine is very scarce 143 in...

Re: New to the Forums

Plenty of info on the forum about puma rally cars . my advice would be to keep everything simple . The hardest part is the sump guard on a puma . Depending on where you are in the country I am sure some one would let you look at there car for inspiration as we all borrow idea from each others cars. ...

Re: Am I missing something here?

Like the above comments you can't compare a race car and a road car . I have just built my rally car costing around the 5k mark with similar parts but better suspension and brakes . The price is reasonable when you understand the work and time that goes into preparing a competition car .

Finis codes.

I have found a box of ford bits and bobs. Probably a load of rubbish but all the finis codes are on them.
Is there any way online of finding them as I have not found any yet.

For the dampers I would use bilstein b6 dampers. I use them on a rally car and work realy well.

I don't know if this is of any help regarding your et but I run et23 on my standard puma but running racing puma alcon's under 15s. They bring the wheel out to be almost flush with the arch. The wheels are team dynamics and they will make any of there wheels to your et specification.

Re: First Rally!

Cheers guys. I followed a few guys on the stages and you could see a massive difference in a bar and pod. The pod has the better range but only gives you visibility strait infront. The bars don't quite have the range but the visibility is far better close in and has a much better spread of light. Th...

The island was in shock and still is to have lost one of their own someone who gave alot to the rally over the years so R.I.P Andy. Got up there on the T...

Re: Puma 1400 Rally Build

Glad you managed to get to the end safely on your first event. At least they were all manageable issues that you had during the day. Noticed on one of your pictures that your exhaust clamps are with the nuts pointing down. I would have them facing the side slightly facing up if you can as the way th...

Good work Neil. Looks like your doing well with a few pots for your collection. We used to run realy skinny 14" rims on the back with the tyres pumped up as had as they go lol. What are your plans for over the winter?

Re: First time Sprinting at Cadwell.

I would definitely go softer on the rear then if your half way.
You can get a tyre softener that you paint in the tyre that might bring the compound down to more of a soft so that may also help.
What is the little boot lip spoiler on you car of? As I quite like it and may pinch your idea.

Re: First time Sprinting at Cadwell.

Are the Dunlop a soft or a super soft?
I ran with the rears as soft as I could go and the fronts with 10 clicks from the softest.
On rally's I usually try and run with a full tank and a spare as it handles better if corners have bumps in.

Nice start to your project. They hold autosolo's and auto tests a stones throw from my house and am good mates with a few of the lads.
I have dun a few in my time as they are good for learning car placement and other skills. More into my rallying now though.

Re: First time Sprinting at Cadwell.

Good report on your day, your differently unlucky when it comes to gearboxes. What tyres are you running on the back as the puma struggles to get heat into the rears. I fined it handles better on a bit more weight over the rear wheels so maybe worth while experimenting with running a full tank of fue...
