Photobucket P500. At Least Dick Turpin Wore a Mask.....

Just my 2p-worth, as I don't have a photo-hosting website personally, but I'd contribute financially to this site too - but of course it may mean a drop in members.

Coolant - where did it go...?

Finally sorted yesterday. Took the car in on Tuesday morning to Ford in Stockport, and collected it late yesterday afternoon. Another £200 invoice for Thermostat Housing/Gaskets/Seals/Coolant and labour costs to go in the 'Puma File' but at least the car is running as lovely as it ever did. Fair pla...

Coolant - where did it go...?

Hi Barry - good to hear from you - I hope you are well. I think the Thermostat Housing on mine is still the original (so did AA man) - if that's correct then 121000 miles/15 years isn't too bad, but you are correct in that the use of some of these materials is a bit odd. Cost reasons, I would imagin...

Coolant - where did it go...?

Another update and more information. Drove home from work yesterday, and as is now (for the time being) normal procedure I checked the coolant... found it pouring out from somewhere in the engine area. Grabbed my camera and took a few snapshots/short video and called Ford Breakdown again. Another ch...

Coolant - where did it go...?

362890 I've got a big run to Scotland next month (can't wait to get the Puma on those roads) so I'll be keeping a very careful eye on it! Anywhere near South Ayrshire? if so feel free to drop in Sadly not - Fife and Oban, but thank you for the offer as I'd have taken you up on that - always happy f...

Coolant - where did it go...?

A good point, Puma Babe, and to be fair to AA Andy, he did have all the 'usual suspects' lined up - Heater Control Valve, Water Pump, Radiator, etc. His conclusion was a massive coolant dump as opposed to a slow leak - hence his thoughts regarding the Thermostat(s) seizing. No signs of any leaks at ...

Coolant - where did it go...?

An update - of a kind, just in case anyone else has a similar strange occurrence. Went back to the car yesterday evening and noticed a large pool of liquid under the car where I usually park. Although clearly not very recent, it certainly wasn't there the other day, and most certainly wasn't just wa...

Coolant - where did it go...?

That's a kind offer, Ian. I was just curious about the incident, really - I'll be back at work on Monday and will get it back in to the garage for a check-up. Agree about the coolant - never happy with just water in there, as it's nowhere as efficient as the proper stuff.

Coolant - where did it go...?

Today I was heading off early into Manchester. All OK until 10-15 minutes into the drive when I noticed the Temperature Gauge had gone from cold, to normal, and was now rapidly rising into the red. Realising I had just passed a Ford dealership on the A56 I swung the car around and got into the car p...

Puma Expenses

I suppose 'running costs' is always something that will raise it's head. I used to look through the various classic car magazine adverts for Aston Martins that had £100,000s work done and were seling for a fraction of that, or MG BGT's with £10,000-worth of 'bills' that were going for £5,000 and thi...

I've just had the car in for it's latest Service and MOT - two bad oil leaks (Rocker Seal and Selector Shaft Seal) and the whole Handbrake mechanism renewed, and a pretty hefty bill followed. So, it's a Bank Holiday weekend and Mrs.T66 is away with friends. I thought I'd do something useful and tidy...

Idea to improve social meets?

361734 We have all the best "puma" roads up here in sunny Scotland and no traffic jams, perhaps someone needs to organise a "drive up the country" How about a drive around North Wales? Cheeky I know, as it's close to me! Hahaha! I've been on the 'Evo' Triangle and ...

Someone who actually knows what they are doing!?

Yes - but one day (at an undetermined point in the future) these cars are going to worth loads . Well, that's what I tell myself everytime I have to spend money on it. Besides - you can't get anything else for the money that either looks like one or drives like one. I'm sort of at the point wh...

pumamartin kindly put this post up - 20 Years Ford Puma meeting, Cologne (D) http://www.projectpuma.com/viewtopic.php?f=184&t=30736 A visit to the Puma factory would certainly have made it interesting... but not sure about the camping bits (too old for that nonsense  ). It's quite sad tha...

Interesting plan, Ash. I removed the Rear Windscreen Wiper from my KA as it was invariably rusting around the Wiper Arm base (as they all do) and even my local and very good bodyshop said they could repair but offer no guarantees on the work as the design was simply flawed. In the end I had the rear...

I've heard lots of differing opinions on the best tyres for a Puma, Matt. I have Firestones on mine and they've been pretty good - especially at only around £48 per tyre from Ford in Stockport. The fronts do wear out pretty quick though - front wheel drive, 1.7 litre lump and some cracking handling ...

5 digit odometer

Only around 120,000 miles on mine, which I’m sure is correct from the history. Mine is on the digital odometer, though, so a bit easier to keep track of. Good advice from JAC about checking internal wear and tear. Sadly, the issue with the Puma is that the infamous steering wheels look like they’ve ...

will ford ever bring out a new puma

I’d agree with most the comments above. Small coupés are not, I think, in any real demand these days. The Toyota GT86 hasn’t sold particularly well despite being an apparently good drive – I could never get past the horrible looks, personally. I hate to say it, but ‘proper’ hatchbacks (I know the Pu...

Stolen Puma's

I think it's a very good question, Richard - but I'll confess to not knowing the answer. I pondered it myself when my remote Key stopped working so was just using the blade. I've never had much faith in these old Ford keys since my KA was broken into and the radio stolen (as well as my expensive Pol...

358471 No "schmacher edition" at all from what I remember, there was a Silverstone related car which might be what you're thinking of?. This has been brought up a few times over the years. There were a handful of Silverstone pace cars as I understand it which had red embroidered leather s...

I've spent, well, quite a bit of money on mine, Alan - bodywork, as always, seems to be the Puma's biggest killer. I had my inner and outer rear arches completely rebuilt by hand and then it still failed the next MOT on the passenger seat mounting points (rusting too near the securing bolts). That w...

Always good to welcome another Ford fan to the forum. Hopefully you've got a 'keeper' there. Those Cortina's sound good, too.
