Prospective owner, Newport (South Wales)

Well that didn't last long. I ended up with a reasonable 1.7 Thunder, but after a couple of weeks, I ended up deciding I wanted something that will hold it's value better into the future... ended up buy a 1998 Ford Mustang 3.8 V6. Not very fast, and certainly not as nimble at the Puma (which I still...

Newbie Looking For A Puma

Tax for the 1.7 is only 250 or 255 a year, depending on if it's pre- or post- 2001, so only £10 a month more. The economy is still pretty good (about 40mpg). Insurance isn't too bad for most people, it only cost me 10-20% more than insuring a similar age/value Fiesta 1.25L

The £1300 MOT, can any one beat that.

I'm expecting similar with mine. The clutch has now starting slipping if I stamp my foot down in 4th on the level... oh dear. I think the way to approach this is to consider how much a car without an of those problems would costs. I bought a £500 Thunder-shed in need of a full engine refresh, with 1...

FRP seat height?

I went up the breakers and got another mirror with a shorter/more offset arm: https://www.projectpuma.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=28392&p=339697&hilit=mirror#p339697 I'll probably be getting a new windscreen soon anyway. If the old one ends up staying I'll sort that out. It's more the A-pillar that's ...

Retrofitting recaro seats

I think there's some form of adaptor bracket 'to-hat' thingy used on the later car bodies. I've seen snippets on info dotted around the place, but can't recall exactly where, sorry.

cheers, the search feature doesn't work very well on the work's PCs. I think I'll try to find a friendly FRP owner nearby who'll hopefully let me have a sit.

FRP seat height?

How high would people say the FRP seats are when compared to the standard leather seats? I find my Thunder seats have me so high (despite adjustments) that the rear-view mirror and a-pillar block my vision to the left and right! Considering replacing with millennium or FRP seats.

FRP Seats & Rear Bench

Hi Paul, Out of curiosity, how low do these mount? I'm finding my Thunder leather seats too tall. Although I'm a short-arse, it's putting the a-pillar right in my field of view! Are you getting rid of your FRP, or just replacing seats etc? I'm wondering if you've still got a normal FRP I could sit i...

Hey fellow Puma Owners

one less thing to leak too. The heater control valve is a plastic body & spigots. Mine had gone brittle over the years, and fell apart on the test drive. Might be easier & safer to bypass the hcv and either link the two pipes together or blank them over further down. Not sure how the coolant flows. ...

Are these still about, and if so, what type are they? One of my Thunder wheels is a bit out-of-true.

How to : Replace your Heater Control Valve (HCV)

This happened to me just now as I was inspecting a cheap Thunder prior to purchase! The spigot fell apart in the owners has as he tried to investigate the seeping coolant. bought a 15mm female/female 90deg copper plumbing bend from wickes (£2.38 for 5!) and joined the hoses together. Got me 150 mile...

Well, following a phone call to the owner, I've got some finance sorted, and booked my train ticket to go and collect it. My first car in 10 years! Proper excited!

'Cheap-n-Cheerful' Thunder... or expensive millennium?

That's what I'm thinking. With the money I save, I can get a proper full engine and suspension service. With motorbikes at least this makes a MASSIVE difference. And if it's too far gone by May for it's next mot (although none of the previous ones had issues), then I've gone a nice car for breaking ...
