Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

Ah but Wankels are a whole different beast. They are also unreliable, impossible to start from cold, astronomically thirsty and woe betide the poor soul who stalls them. Whereas the trusty Hyabusa will trundle along nicely for the rest of time, and then pull your face off when necessary. Can you te...

Re: FRP Duratec Turbo Project!

I'd just like to say Suzuki should get a mention for squeezing 200 horses into a 1.3. There's engineering, and then there's bike engines. Sorry for jumping in on an old post but only 200??? My 1.3 has more and is pulling a car not a pushbike  - and is only 2 'cylinder' so has an excuse for no ...

Re: Bit of a newb with questions......Sorry!

Put it in the engine in my Puma. In respect to the gearbox I never changed that oil in my ownership, had I done I would have put it in for definite.

Now wondering why I never put some in anyway

+1 on the ZX1, it's brilliant stuff, been in all my cars (except my RX8) as far back as I can remember and has improved some engines beyond recognition.

Re: Tax Disc

Yeah this new rule about no transferring tax is a possible pain in the arse. Can't remember exactly how it works if you buy a car, get insurance for it that day and try and get tax for it. You won't be able to get it online as they won't see that it's insured even if it is as it takes a few days to ...

Re: High mpg

the Puma is known for having a start-stop-start issue. Happened to me when I first got the car as I wasn't aware it is sometimes a pig to start if you do short trips. I just turned the ignition on and waited 3 - 4 seconds (time for the fuel pump to pressure up) and it then fired straight into life. ...

Re: Most number of litres to fill your tank?

Hope you haven't used that garage again since Rick as obviously had a faulty pump or maybe 'rigged'.

When I refilled mine on my epic 500+ mile tank drive I didn't need that much from bone dry to spilling out.

46.34 was the most I ever managed.

26 of my tank fills were 40 litres or more.

Re: Stage 2 Focus 1.8 clutch, will it fit?

No idea about the flywheel differences if any between the cars. I got a 1.8/2.0 Focus clutch for my 1.7 Puma and had no problems so I have to assume both cars have similar sized flywheels so that the clutch part with the splines bolts to the Puma like an original parts. If you have a picture of the ...

Looks right to me but all I'm going on is 220mm from a Mk1 1.8 focus....which is what I used.

Re: Rear Wheel bearings

As Martin says, there should be enough of a lip to tap each one out from opposite side with a decent screwdriver or drift. They back onto a raised section in the middle so you can't tap from one side and hope to get them out the other. Also if this lip is damaged in the slightest it'll likely screw ...

Re: Strange smell when going 70 for over 10 mins

Without smelling it, it's a hard one to diagnose on a forum.

If it's not an engine overheating smell it could possibly be the clutch or even the brake pads.

Re: Not starting

You could check the usual suspects. Plugs, HT Leads and coil pack. Seg ^this^ everytime is the first port of call, then check fuel filter has been changed recently. All these are easily checked and replaced. Just a minor note which may or may not be relevant in this current issue, everytime you get...

Re: Poor starting

Make sure the missus gives it a few seconds for the fuel pump to prime after turning the key so the dash lights come on, then turn over the engine. I used to switch it on, then put on my seatbelt, then turn the car over and it always started first time. Sometimes if I fired her straight up it would ...

Re: No fuel at engine

Turn the engine over while someone checks the shrader valve (the technical name for a tyre valve lol) on the front left of the engine to see if fuel comes out. This valve is just past the injector rail so if no fuel comes out the engine isn't getting any. If it does come out, it is.

Enjoyed reading this thread as it's had me in stitches, obviously not the problem with the car but the spirit in which you have gone about fixing it and later on the joking around.

Hope it all goes well buddy....have a brew on me :ok:
