    rusty wheel arches.....:(

What did you do about the lip on the peugeot arches, As the puma arch has no lip except where it blends in with the sill was it a case of just cutting it off or did you peen it over as the Pumas are?

MOT Failure - Too loud? what.

As far as i'm aware if the retest is done by the garage that failed it they can do a discounted retest if they want or charge again for a full test. Take it anywhere else and you have to pay for a full MOT test, A tester is responsible for the full MOT test on that vehicle, Thats why he signs it...

I Just bought an X reg, 1.7, Lux pack, 2 owners, 68K, FSH, 10 months mot and 1 months tax! Recent cambelt kit with a tiny bit of rust on the O/S/R arch apart from that its mint for £460! All it needed was a clutch, Got a good quality 3 piece clutch and gear oil for £80 and fitted it myself...

    Uh oh, Newbie alert! D=

As an ex-car bodywork estimator you would be extremely stupid if you do not declare modifications including aftermarket alloys, Over the years i have seen claims thrown out for undeclared mods, Even had a claim on a Boxster refused as it had illegal tyres and the owner ended up stumping up the...

    Engine Flush. Good idea?

Never used engine flush, If an engine has'nt had regular oil changes i would get a leading supermarket brand 5w30 semi synth, Change the filter and run it round for about 500-1K miles and drop it out and change it again with another new filter. Thats what ive done in the past.

    Oil and filter change

All Opies stuff is good, I use their Fuchs Titan pro S ester for my 345BHP Skyline but use Tescos or Halfords (If on offer like recently at £10 for 4ltrs) Semi syn 5w30 for my Puma's as it all well specced. Yes, Ive got 3 Puma's at the mo!

    Will it fit

Just put F&R shocks and lowering springs off a MK5 Fiesta on my 1.7 and it was a straight swap. Had a leaky O/S/F shock and standard springs, I got the used set of Fiesta springs and shocks in mint condition cheaper than the cost of 1 new replacement front shock! Front shocks should be replaced...

Check the bleed nipples arent clogged, Take them out and have a look, Puma brakes should bleed easily by just pumping, Ive just replaced 2 rear brake pipes and front hoses, Bled a treat.

    Exhaust Problem

Lady down the road had the same thing with her Corsa, I pulled all the fibres out, It all came out like a rope! Told her she needs to think about getting a rear silencer, That was 6 months ago and shes still driving around with the old one on!

    gearbox change !!

Are you absolutely sure this is gearbox related? You say it knocks when you start the engine? Is the car stationary? Worn gearboxes only tend to whine/Growl and crunch on the move when selecting gears etc, First motion shafts rattle when stationary but noise should go when clutch is depressed...

Ok, Not one to be beaten on this (I'm a fully qualified ex-mechanic, Though layed down my spanners before cars had vct!) Ive been back to the car, Slackened off inlet cam pulley, Aligned inlet cam, Gave the Cam pulley/VCT hub a nice sharp blow with a copper/ Hide mallet! Refitted bolt, Torqued...

Is my VCT goosed? SOLVED I hope!

Hi, I need a bit of advice, I'm changing the timing belt on my 1.7 and i'm having a problem timing it up. After setting the crank and cams with locking pin and cam bar (Cam pulleys loosened etc) and tightening the pulley bolts up using a spanner to hold the cams when i turn the engine 2 turns...
