Black smoke is caused by excess fuel getting into the cylinder area ,that's why your using a lot of fuel. Quite a few causes for this . running to rich. engine management fault .fuel injector faulty to name a few.

Coolant to low, needs topping up ASAP or you'll need a new head gasket

I'm no expert ,but just searched for your problem and found it might be your VCT stuck or faulty. Might not be correct but something to check out.

I had something similar on mine. Driving round town heater was warm even though dial was on cold. On motorways it worked as it should. The fault on mine was the pollen filter .it looked like it had never been changed and was completely black. Changed this and now works as it should.

There's probably no "how to" because unless you have something to push the new bearing in you'll find it really difficult. If I needed the bearings done ,I'd take it to a garage or just replace the whole unit.

I had a similar problem with the drivers side carpet becoming wet . Found rain water was getting in through the door seal and soaking into the carpet ,replaced the seal and cured the problem.

I'm no expert, but I think the insurers will write it off due to the cost of repairs being more than the cars worth. I'm dreading someone hitting mine as this will probably be the outcome for me. Is always the chance to buy it off them to repair yourself, but I think it is classed as a category...

Had the unit out, stripped and cleaned as much as possible, replaced it but still the same. looks like its a problem with the electrics on the unit, so it looks like a trip to my local dismantlers to source a replacement unit. Thanks for the help :thumbs:

It looks like one of the Lambda retaining clips has come off and landed on the heat shield and melted as I can't see any in the pictures.

Will take the unit out tomorrow and give it a good clean and see if anything obvious is wrong with it. Thanks again....

Thanks CherryVimto Thought it should do that. When I turn mine off it stops straight away and doesn't return to its rest position. Is this controlled by a relay on the car? if it is, can someone direct me to its location please.

Could someone tell me if the rear wiper has a relay to complete one cycle to clear the window or is it a case of turn it on and cancel it myself (this is what i'm doing at the moment)when the window is clear? Thanks in advance..
