    The price of some parts

Following my split hose in the middle of London traffic on Saturday, my depression lifted a bit over Sunday and, this morning when the car dealer was open, I phoned to see if they had the hose in stock. It is the one from the heater to the back of the block... Ford Parts Dept: "Yes, we have the...

    Antifreeze (link fixed)

Further to the above - the pink antifreeze I was sold by Bennets of Hatfield as being suitable for a Ford is in fact VW antifreeze and not at all suitable. I found this out when I drove to London today. Near Hammersmith, the Puma started steaming again. Under the bonnet the pipe from the header...

    Antifreeze (link fixed)

I have been using the pink stuff following a thermostat-housing leak about a year or 18 months ago. Yesterday, it went again. The thermostat seal has the consistency of soft liquorice/black chewing gum. I can only think that it is the anti-freeze.

    The price of some parts

No, they won't. The larger bolts have a 16mm head, and this leaves less than 3mm outside them.

    The price of some parts

Many thanks - you're all right - replacements without the stupid chrome-plated hex is the answer. I've been given a load of errands by she who shall not be named - there's a place I know sells that sort of thing cheap.

    The price of some parts

I had the engine cover off a few days back to mop out oil that had been spilled between the filler and the cover. If you remember, there are about 6 large-headed chrome hex bolts and three small ones that hold the head cover on. I noticed that one or two were worn and the Allen key was not...

    Well that went well...ish

Nice story - I bet you were smiling all the way...well, at least when you were not in traffic jams.

    seat height adjustment

The lever is central in the normal position when you sit in the seat. If you pump/press downwards it goes down, if you pump/pull upwards, you should feel the seat moving under your backside. There is not a lot of movement available.

    handling

Shock-absorbers - test it by bouncing on the wings and then get under the wheel arches and look for leaks, if the wheels are even slightly out of balance, worn shockers will mean that the tyres will have constantly varying contact pressure on the road and this will cause tramlining - the...

    The £100,000 Puma

OK, I'm looking for donations: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/detail/motors/classic-cars/ford/puma/176432 Based on the engine, we are looking at at least 398 BHP and four-wheel drive. I quite fancy the idea of going down to Sainsburys in this. Everyone who donates more than £10,000 will...

    rear wheel arch liners

They're' not "carpet" :-P they are like a thin scouring pad stuck to some reasonably stiff plasticy stuff. The "scouring pad" surface is supposed to reduce spray and noise. Contrary to myth, they have no effect on rusting.

    Driving 1.7 faster for the 1st time...WTF!

Yes... they're good aren't they! The VCT kicks in around 4000 and continues up to about 5600: it feels like you've been rear-ended by an HGV and then the power comes in.
