My old 1.7 started knocking at the back, it sounded like the spare wheel was banging around, I removed the spare, but knocking was still there. Local garage was familiar with the sound, as common on Fiestas, he replaced "some bushes at the rear" and it was as good as new, very cheap to fix...

I bought a 1.7 Puma new in Jan 98 after Top Gear made it their car of the year. We kept it for 14 years or so and covered 125,000 miles in it. Had to get in welded a couple of times to drag it through it last two MOTs. Reg was R230OMJ, Moondust Silver, a/c, heated front screen. No major issues...
