Hello all

Had a 1.7 for a while now but due to me neglecting it a little a few things have crept up and not being able to afford a new car (puma) I need to keep with this one.

Got 3 things to go at with my silver puma ( well 4 but I've seen the rear bumper guide change and it looks straight forward)

1. I've got a replacement wing mirror, how do you change it, I basically need to change the fixing (black bit) and case due to some git hitting it. Is there a guide? is it easy?

2. Out of interest can you get the rubbers changed on the windows?

3. I've got a leak in the drivers foot well, think its running down from behind dash somewhere, but not dripping

One final thing any Puma specialists in the North West? Im in north Manchester and need a cam belt change soon as on 70k. Or is this too early?

Many Thanks

JBlake

Hi and welcome!

Can't help with your wing mirror, but I'm sure someone will be along with suggestions at some point.

As for your other questions:

Are they past refurbishing? If they're going a bit white and faded, you can sand off the white bits and then use something like Gtechniq C4 trim restorer (also works on wing mirror black bits, windscreen wiper arms, scuttle plate etc). Or this stuff. If you actually need to replace them, the front door rubbers are about £40 a side. The passender windows are bonded so is probably more trouble than it's worth.

This is not uncommon - if you have a quick search, people have found various causes/solutions for this.

Cambelt should be done every 5 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes sooner. There's a list of garages people on here have used and posted good feedback for in my signature below.

If you need spares in the future, you're not a million miles away from Ian G - our resident Puma spares man. Link to his profile in my signature below.

Welcome aboard

I have manual mirrors on mine and I had to loosen the pasenger side one to fit the weatherstrip that fits along the horizontal top of the main body of the door. I had to pull the cap off the inside to access the nuts 3 iirc but I had to remove the door panel to get to one of the nuts, if you have electric mirrors there will be an electrical connector as well.

Use the search facility for leaks, it likely will be coming from the flat panel underneath the bonnet underneath the windcreen.
The solution is usually sealing seams with some kind of sealer.

I'm not sure which rubbers you mean but the above mentioned horizontal weatherstrip is circa £40+ from Fords.

I had my camelt done recently at OMC castleton and haggled the labour down to £225 and had them fit the water pump labour free as well (but I bought the cambelt kit, water pump, auxilliary belt, and rocker gasket myself from Keith Motors on ebay. I'm happy with the job they did but they reported the end of one of the cams was broken, which I had not noticed a couple of weeks before when I changed the rocker gasket. So Im unsure if they broke it or not.
