Hi

I am new to Puma's but mine has developed a mystery problem. The water level in the header tank suddenly drops for no apparent reason.

I have had two Mechanics look at the car and there is no problem with the radiator and they cannot find any leaks.

It had a full service three weeks ago, with no reported problems.

Last night before I went to bed I top up the header tank as it was between min and max. This morning it was almost empty.

The stupid thing is that I can run the car on my 170 mile round trip commute and the water level will not drop and the car temp dosen't rise above half way.

This seems to happen once or twice a week at random times.

I have taken to checking the water level 2 -3 times aday as I am now getting paranoid.

If anyone has any sugestions as to why this is happening I would love to hear them.

Heres hoping someone can solve my mystery :s

get it pressure tested when cold and then when its hot, check carpets for wetness, also check below coil pack, common problem for leak on pipe under there

Thanks, I will check these anything to solve this annoying problem

Thanks for replying so quickly

You didn't say whether you noticed any wet patches or puddles under the car.

Hi, no wet patches or puddles under the car, as I mentioned before it was checked for leaks but nothing was found.

I just wonder where all the water is going.

Hmm. That's a weird one. If it's not leaking outside, then it may be inside instead then, as Martin suggests.

I recently had a similar problem. The culprit was eventually found to be an intermittently leaking water pump. This didn't show up under pressure testing they apparently can leak then reseal

That sounds likely and would explain what has been happening, I will definately get this checked Thanks

Hi Puma Babe, Sounds very familiar, I will also take the advice in your thread and look at getting those checked. It is really worrying when you have a fault, lets hope its not too expensive.

Did you ever get the problem fixed?
