I'm stripping a used front subframe down to bare metal ready for some fresh paint. Strikes me this would be a good time to weld it with some strengthening plates, assuming this would help.

- Did the Racing Puma use the standard Fiesta subframe used on everything from Ka to Courier van?
- Any rally tips and tricks to modding the standard subframe, eg seam weld around the top and bottom halves?

I can see the standard subframe is spot welded top and bottom, I was thinking a seam weld around the outside might help. Also some strengthening plates/webs around the steering rack mounts. If anyone has had a go at this, I'd appreciate some input.

(NB I've already fitted strut braces front and rear and will be using the lower suspension brace too)

The FRP used the same subframe with no mods. It’s quite a robust bit of kit already
