Why do some folk call the Puma a hairdressers car?

If you've done this argument a million times already it's ok to sit this one out.

As I'm new to both Puma's and the forums in general I thought I'd ask why some of my friends rib me about owning a Puma.

They dont' look particularly girlish to me, they look quite sporty, but then I had a Rover 25 before this.

I have noticed that most of the Puma's I have seen around are driven by women, so maybe that has got into the consciousness of some folk. More woman puma drivers = woman's car?

As for my milly, 2 different girls had gone to look at it before I bought it, then after I bought it another girl enquired about it and was apparently upset it had been sold, she really wanted it.

Do you get annoyed if someone pokes fun at you for driving a Puma?

What's the best retort you can think of, apart from taking them round the twisties at 70mph and scaring them shitless

I think it's just general ignorance TBH. People assume because its "a fiesta with a posh frock" that it's for women with more style than to buy a fiesta, not realising it's real personality when you let it rip.

Leave 'em to think it's a girls car. Your the one having fun driving it. Keep it a secret ;)

I am a girl. But then the last thing you'd get me driving is a 'girl's car'. Hence my history of Escorts which includes 2 XR3i.

I think it's because it's a curvy car, people assume it's a girl's car.

The amount of abuse (mostly good natured) I get at work drives me mad most the time. I think it's just ignorance - look up any motoring magazines write up of the Puma, and they'll note that it's one of the best handling front wheel drive small coupes around.

Doing your "aslan" again eh chuck?

yeh, i dont get it....... after the army i trained as a product designer....

i can tell you that a fiesta etc was DESIGNED for women to go shopping.... a second car etc for little jobs.... theres a particularly manly man i know with an st & he hates me telling him he owns a 'shopping trolley'! even allen at pb couldnt argue against it....ford designed it as a shopping trolley......

the escort / focus was designed as a small FAMILY car so i enjoy reminding people of that, even if they own an st & there men aged 18 with no kids..... i ask them if they want 3 kids.....!!!!!!!!

the mondeo etc..... this gets more complicated as marketing types confuse people into 'wanting' a bigger family car.... maybe they have a dog & like caravanning.....

MPVs .... dont get me started ...again marketing hype & people being idiotised!!! if you need a vesectomy or just enjoy wasting my valuable air on 2 un needed children then by all means have an mpv & 5 kids.... (please remember they dont issue medals for 'breeding' anymore!!!!)

ford realised that fast fiestas sell tho so thought theyd do a proper job for once & the design brief for a small sporty coupe was released on the designers.....

its fords only true sporty car...... the gt40 is there only true supercar, the fiesta is there only true small car & the focus there only true family car; the others are a waste of natural resources on muppets who will throw it away after 3 years cos they like the small of the (toxic) glue fumes that a new car has......

really - we need a way to remove said people from the breeding pool as their diluting the 'intelligent civilised paradise' we live in....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

merry xmas!!!!
