Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts or recommendations as to car covers for use in a garage?

My Puma lives in a dry well ventilated garage, but a little concrete dust is stirred up from the floor particularly in the winter when it's not used so much. I've seen conflicting advice as to whether covers are a good idea or not, as they can trap in moisture etc which is the last thing I want to do.

Keen to hear your thoughts - thanks in advance

Use a couple of old bed sheets sown together.

I did this with my Sukuzi with one sheet in a dry garage. Works well, keeps the dust off and the vehicle can still 'breathe'. Don't tie the sheets down, unless you have to, as the walking past makes them flap and ventilates things underneath.

When my integra type r was in the garage,i bought a tailored car cover from specialist car covers..it was made to the exact shape of the car,and was made of a soft inside, breathable material so moisture wasn't trapped..

I've used a proper indoor breathable cover for my XR2 for years in my brick built garage and had no trouble. The problem with old sheets is that while they will let air through they are also very good at absorbing moisture and then staying damp which is something a car cover is designed not to do.

Seal your dusty concrete with a pre-seal and paint it so there's no longer any dust to protect against?

Got mine from here:

The pre-seal is really good and the paint is ok but does lift a little bit. I've about 10L of pre-seal left (enough to do a double garage) if you're up this way (Northants) you can have it for nowt.

Thanks all for your replies - very helpful. I decided to order the Metex cover in this review for £39:

Will let you know how I get on with it. Hoping it may afford some protection against kids bikes etc scraping against it too. Also thanks for the kind offer Dal. Im down near Brighton so a bit far away, sadly. But that is a good idea for the future. I've got quite a big surface area to cover so wouldn't be cheap but I guess with these things once it's done it's done.

Well the 20L tub I bought would do about 50m2 easily as a guide. :eek:k:

Finally got round to getting the cover on - wanted to give the car a wash and let her dry out first.
It's not a bad fit and should do the job

I've done some research on the pre-seal for the floor (thanks Dal) and have decided to do that when time permits. Once this is done and if this rain ever stops, I am also going to fit one of these weather strips which will stop a puddle forming under the garage door in heavy rain. Pumas home will then be totally sorted

A few months on and Pumas' home is now complete - floor painted last weekend (several blisters later) and weather strip fitted today. Thanks for the advice all

Puma is now Sorned in its new home for the winter. We moved late summer after many months of delays, but a nice compensation has been the garage, professionally tiled by the previous owner and even comes with its own wood burning stove!

It feels stranglely satisfying to put her in hibernation for a few months whilst there is salt on the roads. After some wax tomorrow i’ll put on the cover and hook up to the trickle charger now and then.

Oh come on...."buttercup" lives in a tin shed (with holes)...it does have a concrete floor which is about as flat as the surface of the moon but tiled floor and a wood burning stove!!! boy do you know how to piss people of
