If the engine on your Puma gave up and needed replacing?

My answer would be..

As long as everything else is in good working order I would keep the car and look for an alternative engine.

I would start with looking for a well serviced 1.7 out of a rear ended write-off.

If I didn't find a satisfactory example then I think I would convert the car into a 1.6 (with the above qualities) as this is less likely to give up in the long run due to the steel liners.

Yup, what he said ^^
(Having just done that)

I'd use it as an excuse to get the FRP I've been longing for for ages.

I'd drop another 1.7 in, or if I had loads of spare cash look at getting a 1.7 head put onto a 1.6 block.

I'd have to push my Honda K20 engined Puma project forward :p
