PRODUCTION CHANGES

Series 1
First 1500 have a numbered gearknob. Dash with half circular dials, analogue rolling odometer/tripmeter, electric drivers seat height adjust, some had VCT on gearstick shroud . Change of bonnet washer jet position shortly after production. Change of Brake master cylinder in March 1998 following problems with earlier design.

Series 1.5
Digital odometer, smaller circular dials, change of design to front wing fixing to shell. Ford 6000 with circular volume knob replaces button control. Rear suspension struts now "eye" fitting [was "fork" previously]

Series 2
Different air-con buttons (upward facing), cigar lighter moved from ashtray to centre console, ashtray changed from pull out to flip down, different front seats with manual seat height adjust replaced electric and neater seat tilt controls, change in fabric pattern, variable intermittent wash wipe, single yellow retainer on jack storage compartment door, 'theatre dimming' interior lighting, infra-red changed to radio key locking along with the remote boot release, blue Ford badge added to steering wheel, changed tail gate struts (open slower).

Series 3 (May 2000>)
Change to 9 spoke wheels, interior plastics changed from grey/blue to grey. Uprated braking system- larger front discs/rear drums and different brake master cylinder.

Third brake light appeared on 2000MY Puma production.

Series 4
'Demister' position pictograms added to heater control panel.

Torque limiter
Pumas built before Aug 98, had the Torque Limiter set at 1500 rpm. After that it was changed to 2500 rpm, then 2800rpm from March 2000. (This is one reason the earlier cars have a faster 0-60mph time)

Due to the way the changes were introduced (the "Ford parts bin needs to be empty before changing" approach), there is no single time when series 1 stopped and series 2 started for example. Therefore you may find cars with some of one series and some of another. For instance, you may have a Series 2 but still have the older style cigar lighter still in the ashtray and not on the heater panel.

Note
This specification / Production changes list affects the standard car only and not the specials. The specials would have taken on the standard cars features at the time of their introduction. Hence why Millennium's are faster than Thunders for example as they have a different torque limit setting from the older cars.

Did the Millennium come with a CD changer as standard?

Also, do they have the upgraded brakes?

Didn't come with CD changer as standard, and came with 240mm brakes

Not all series 2 had a blue enamel badge on the steering wheel. My late '99 one didn't, nor did early FRPs.
I think they also added a coloured Ford badge on back of the radio remote fob at the time.

Series 4 Pumas had a 2nd HEGO sensor added.

A sunroof, lowering springs and MS design bodykit were further dealer fit options.

Didnt think they ever offered a sunroof? Something to do with the shape of the roof being too curved for glass.

My W reg 2000 doesnt have a blue badge on the steering wheel, just the outline of the badge, so unless its fallen off mines the same.

But is your W registered 2000 but built 1999? My old W was the same.

A sunroof was an option and there are a couple out there with them fitted!

Posted this on 'the other pp' but I thought I'd share it on here as well :D

I know there've been a lot of questions about 'which is the right trim for my puma', and confusion about the two later trim options, so when I happened to have the two 'different' later trims on my drive today, I thought I'd take a few pics and hopefully let you see the difference between the 2!

This first pic shows the seat squab from the 2 cars.... the one at the top is the 51 plater.... and as you can see the actual fabric is lighter in colour and less bluey!

[albumimg]538[/albumimg]

This second pic shows the 'centre' fabrics next to each other.... again with the 51 plate fabric at the top. If you look at the two, the top one has coloured threads running through it, whereas the 99 car is just different greys!

[albumimg]541[/albumimg]

and just in case you're in any doubt still about the difference between the two colours, here's a close up of each one ;)

99 / V plate first...

[albumimg]539[/albumimg]

and then the 51 plate :)

Hopefully this will help folks when they're trying to replace seats and other interior trim :)

(Public Service announcement ends, lol)

Just a random snippet:

The first Zetec engine appeared in 1992, powering the fourth generation of the European Ford Escort and Orion. It was codenamed as the "Zeta" engine before Italian car maker Lancia threatened to sue Ford for trademark infringement as it already owned the name. Ford hurriedly renamed the engine "Zetec".

I think the second Hego was actually introduced with the Series 3, I know there is no hard and fast rule, but my 3/01 build car has it.

Also, I think there were two generations of ECU on the two Hego cars, DIVE and QQPI.

Referring to the:

"Platinum Pack Option not available with 'Quickclear' front screen.
1997/1998 (1.7 only) - Platinum 7000 Stereo/Cassette RDS EON 2000+ - Stereo Radio/CD Model 6000 RDS EON (single play CD) power amplifier and upgraded speakers with woofers (consists of an amp in the boot & 4 speakers in the rear passenger area instead of 2)."

My g/f's '98 R reg Panther Black' Puma I believed had this option - 4 speakers in rear and amp in boot. Although, someone previously had removed the original headunit. However, there was a built in 6 CD changer in the passenger seat that is not mentioned above - it's situated in the plastic element below the seating cushion just above the sliding mechanism to move the seat front or back.

I always understood it was the late (2000) FRPs that lacked the enamel badge, whereas the early (late 1999) FRPs had the badge. Mine's a 2000 FRP and it doesn't have the badge.

I've been wanting one for my FRP. Looks much better, you know? Do you know if I can get one somehow?

Non 'UK' colours - State Blue (non metallic deep dark blue), Thistle (Brombeer) (metallic light purple) Electric Green (metallic bright green) and Amparo Blue (metallic mid blue).

Excellent work, very useful and concise....one thing I noticed is State blue is a proper metallic deep blue colour.

as an aside there were a few early examples MY97's with leather trim seats and side trims. I think about 22 were made, 20 for the promotion 2 for Ford's own use and all in red hide with Panther black paint? They were made for a marketing company promotion in Germany....the trimming was sub-contracted to the same company that trimmed bespoke AMG's.
I never saw one but we were talking about Puma's tailpipe emissions compliance at a meeting in Merkenich COP division....that was a visit I remember it burst my bubble of German work ethics...4pm and the meeting ended very abruptly, we had around 30 mins more work but were told to come back tomorrow rather than work the extra few minutes!

Has anyone got any pics of how the 4 speakers in the rear look witj the rear interior panels removed.
