Having issues with Puma's timing.

It keeps jumping on the advance/inlet side. It has played up before, was sorted and ran for a few weeks no problems but on a 6hr long round trip (in which it ran perfectly) right at the end it started suddenly running rough. Timing checked and it had jumped a tooth. So, it was re-timed again but the idle was high, timing was re-checked and all fine and the idle issue promptly disappeared. So it was taken for a test drive and two miles in starts running rough again. To invite checked and it's jumped a tooth and a bit again. It's always on the inlet side. Always same fault code P1381.

I'm thinking the VCT solenoid is playing up, is that fair and how do I check if so or if it working OK? Any other suspects or things to check? Any help gratefully received, very frustrating few weeks.

For info- correct timing procedure has been followed as detailed in the how to here: https://www.projectpuma.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=25102
The Gates tensioner tech bulletin too.
