Hi all,

My 1,7 has been in the garage for most of the winter bt I kept the battery topped up with a trickle charger.

I went to start it yesterday but although it turned over it wouldn't start.

I checked the fuses & fuel cut off switch but all seemed Ok.

Tried to check the spark plugs but could get the engine cover bolts undone without rounding them off.........so gave up in frustration!!

Anyway tried today & it started.....but there was quite a loud droning nose from the back of the car.

I tried to open the boot to try to see where it was coming from but had to turn the engine off to get the only key i have.
After that it wouldn't start again.

Do any of you think it might be the fuel pump that's causing the problem?

Any help would be really appreciated before I call in a mobile mechanic.

Cheers,

Mark

Fuel pump fuse is 10A fuse in engine bay fuse box,

Are you hearing the 'whirring' noise when the ignition is turned to position 2?
This will tell you if the pump is priming before you attempt to start the car.

I've had this issue before after being parked up over winter,
Sometimes it would blow a fuse, sometimes it wouldn't. After putting half a tank of fuel in it never did it again.

Thanks for your reply.

I did hear the pump priming the first day it didn't start but not now.

I'll check the fuses again but wonder if the guage is reading right (just under a 1/4 full) and just needs more fuel.

.......or needed more petrol but the pump is knackered now!

I'll report back in case anyone else has the same problem.

Ok, added some more petrol and now it sounds like the pump is priming but still a non-starter...Grrr!
