Does it have an analogue odometer? If so could be the speedo cable which goes into the gearbox.

I have the same problem, the only time the needle on the speedo doesnt 'bounce around' is under acceleration. Slowing down, changing gear, and coasting all cause it to do a little dance.

Any ideas on a fix?

I'd say that was the same thing that Red suggested as under acceleration the gearbox is under load so will behave differently.

A 'kicking' speedo needle is usually caused by the end of the speedo drive cable being bent at an angle or a badly routed cable.

I dont suppose you could point me in the right direction to have a gander?

You could take out the dial pack and inspect the end of the speedo cable.

The speedo cable usually has a small square end on it and is secured with a knurled wheel.
