My daughter was stopped by the police in her Thunder and received an on the spot £30 fine because her driver and passenger wndows were tinted. Apparently the tint was cutting out 70% of the available light, when the legal limit is 50%.

My question is, was the Thunder manufactured with the windows tinted. I am having problems getting an answer from Ford

Thanks

Hi Pritch - welcome along,

As standard, the Ford tinted windows on all Pumas fall well below the limit of tint set out in the law. My best guess without seeing the windows would be that the previous owner tinted them more themselves and didn't tell you when they sold it.

Best thing to do would be to find a place that tints windows and get there opinion / them to remove the tints, if it's not a simple case of removing a thin film from the glass if you can see one.

VOSA Tinted Windows brochure:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/reposit" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... 4a14e5d717

See following in the brochure:
"If you’re selling a vehicle with extra tinting applied to the
windscreen or front side windows -
The vehicle may now have glass that is darker than permitted by
Construction & Use Regulations, in which case the vehicle
should not be sold."

I'm sorry for your daughter's problems, but as a biker I am so pleased the law is now tightening up on this stupid fad.

I got stopped in my escort in Jan, i dint get a fine tho, i just got a slip which said i had to remove the tint and get it inspected at a m.o.t station and then had to send it to the police station.

Was lucky really, could have got 3 points.

dont understand why sunglasses are allowed as i think most of them are over 70% as well :p

Because sunglasses are not generally worn at night except by dickheads who think it makes them look uber-cool rather than uber-stupid.

The problem with tints is not so much the restriction of vision on bright sunny days.
