I'm always sceptical of free stuff but the integration does sound really useful. I'll try and remember to have a look at it :D

Yeah, me too, but they've been around a while and have a good track record.

Point is, something is putting people off using the Gallery upload and I reckon it's due to needing to resize. Most of these pics here are for one forum only, so something is putting people off.

Having this as an additional on-site option to the Gallery might at least give us a good chance of not having nonsense project threads in the future? Just a thought.

I agree and it's certainly worth considering.. just have to caveat that if their service changes (like photobucket did) then we can't do much about it.

I deleted my account earlier today, not because of the above (I was nowhere near the storage limit), but because of the shitty ads and overall experience. I'm backing most of my images up using Google Photos, which IMO is a far better service.

Well, I've never had an account for this bunch, so I'm going to have to guess a bit. 'Third Party hosting' means showing pics on sites like this one. First Party hosting means on Photobucket itself and that hasn't stopped (yet)

So - http://s36.photobucket.com/user/Jason_Stretton/library/ and it says showing 'a few' of the albums and I'm guessing if you logged in there yourself then you'd see the rest. When you can see them all, then click one, like - http://s36.photobucket.com/user/Jason_S ... t=3&page=1 and select 'Download Album' on the right.

That will give you the pics, the order in which you uploaded them and their scrambled name. You then match those to the ones missing here by hovering over each one here and seeing the 'web address' of each in the browser statusbar at the bottom.

Hope that helps a bit.

All the pics are there still on PB, if you click on the image of the rev counter thing the original image comes up.

I've started amending my threads with my new account with Flickr, but it's a pain in the ass to do compared to PB to it. No easy way to get the BB or IMG code

Is Google photos service viable option? I guess Google will, for the foreseeable future remain free of charge (since they are collecting your data anyway, what is another topic) and hence the work of relinking the images might be doable. I am affraid that if I switch everyhing to Flickr, they might decide to charge it as well in a year or so (seeing photobucket has done it) and it is back to square one....
Or, the option I guess is to put everything on PP site. How much would that slow everything down? I mean, the money that photobucket is now asking I would much rather invest in the site here if needed to make it viable option to store the images on the server here.
I did all the images resize anyway so they are not bigger than 2 Mpix, but I guess that is just about the bottom size to be able to see things nicely and across full screen...?

Totally Sinisa - I'd prefer to contribute to PP so we could host our own pictures rather than pay anyone else!

I've now been hit with Photobuckets demands. I was getting fed up with them and this is now the icing on the cake. I don't mind paying a fee but I don't bow down to what seems like extortion.
My photos have now been downloaded on to my computer and I have actioned the closure of my account.

I would agree with Wild E on that. I am a paid member on ZSOC but that site doesn't seem very active so I would rather put that money towards this site if it helped out.

Out of interest what's the 'membership' fee like over there?

It's £5.00 for a year. Just allows full access to every part of the site/forum.

That doesn't sound too bad I guess, I've always been concerned about locking people out until they've paid, but I guess it makes sense.

This might be interesting read, but essentially just says what I suspected: any free image hosting site may have change of heart at any moment...

Just my 2p-worth, as I don't have a photo-hosting website personally, but I'd contribute financially to this site too - but of course it may mean a drop in members.

This being the case, it should be scriptable.

Matt - are you able to run a query to return all instances of Photobucket photo links from the database and fire it over to me in a spreadsheet? I may be able to whip something up to go through each one, parse the Photobucket user/album name, download the album, extract the archive, upload the photos somewhere else and output a before/after table to do a cheeky UPDATE at your end?

This photobucket is becoming pathetic. Has anyone SUCCESFULLY downloaded his images back? I can't get it done, it is always giving me the response: hmmmm, something didn't click. Try out again?
Not to mention the response from the site comparable to reflexes of a 2 year dead horse...

Hi Sinisa
I got all my images back and reposted most of them on other photo hosting sites. It seems like it depends on what time of day you're trying to do something on photobucket as to how the streaming ads screws you up but when you try to get your photos back the setting them up for transfer on photobucket takes far longer than downloading them to your computer. Stick with it you'll get them back.

I've successfully downloaded all my photos. Trying to download entire albums was a no-go - I found it far quicker to open each individual picture in each album and download the photos one at a time.

B...y H...l! I've got over 1000 of them... Think quicker will be to browse through various folders on my laptop.

Photobucket sre...d me nicely. Where to repost images? Flickr? Or to go for a smaller business?

Cheers for any suggestion

It may sound crazy but that's the way it worked for me. I only had about 40 or so pictures so not that bad.

I'm using Flickr but not actually used it much so can't really form much of an opinion on it. The only thing I can say about it is that getting an IMG link isn't as simple as it was on Photobucket. You can get a link from Flickr but it's huge and contains loads of other stuff so it seems you have to then edit the link just to get the [IMG] part.

I am considering converting an old PC in to a picture hosting device but I'm only looking in to it at the moment to see what is involved.

I'm working on something for this problem but I'm not sure if hosting all of the missing photos will exhaust the space on our poor little server.
