Hi All.

I have just had my first puma, it's a nice little silver 1.7 16v (2000) model I have only have it for few days and i love it but the speakers are very poor i want to ger some new ones but have no idea what size i can put in the original holes as i dont want to start chopin my baby up.

If anyone has any advise i would be greatful.

Cheers.

Welcome along stavs :eek:k: Glad to see you've got the right colour ;)

Your standard speakers are a much written about subject in pumaland. Some people think the fronts are 130mm (5.25"), some think 160mm (6"). Personally, I think you can get aftermarket 160mm ones in without much fuss.

You may need to fart about with the mounting a bit as the std ones come with 3 fixings at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock positions whereas aftermarket ones come with 4.

If your not that keen on 'trimming' there are kits available to fit std ones such as these:

• Adaptor pods for the:
• Ford Puma - Oct 1996 - Onwards
• Front door use only
• allows speaker size 130mm (5.25")

Or you can squeeze in 17cm ones at a push. Need to be careful of the depth though when you get bigger as puma doors are not that deep.

The rear speakers are 5" x 7" and can be found all over the place. You may be able to squeeze a 6" x 9" if your good at DIY / fitting.

Look at places like http://www.caraudiosecurity.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.CarAudioDirect.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.caraudiodiscount.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and even http://www.ebay.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to see whats about.

The door cards come of fairly easily, just make sure you've taken out all the screws and unclipped all the pins before trying to yank it off. A few spare clips from Ford never go a miss (especially for the rear cards)

Welcome to the site :)

It would appear your question has been sufficiently answered already :eek:k:

No worries - let us know how you get on!

:eek:k:

i Have fitted 6.5 speakers in my front doors, took quiet abit of hacking away with the air hacksaw but was well worth it.

chris.

whatever you do if you upgrade the stereo always take the front off or youll end up like me having to sing to yourself :(

oh dear... i had that trouble in my old fiesta, was parked in works yard and some little **** broke in and stole my unit.

i put 165mm. it had to be nodified, because diffusor of speaker during low bass was touching the door panel.
But anyway, if you are changing only speaker, the sound wont be so good- you have to change head unit for better sound experience.

I bought some 16.5cm JBLs, had to go back as I wasn't keen on cutting sections of the door away.

Replaced with a pair of 13cm Alpine coaxials that went straight in (apart from drilling 3 small holes per side for mounting).

Buy a load of spare door clips from Ford as they have a habit of breaking.

Dal, these adaptor plates don't fit the Puma (I couldn't wqork out where you'd put them for the front speakers) but the wiring adaptors were useful.

Ive got JBL components all round, with tweeters mounted in the front door mirror backs. They are only small, i think theyre 16cms, hell if i can remember. Sound good though, not excessivly loud, but for that id need an amp and i cant be bothered with the hassle.
