Hello there,

Nice to meet you all.

Today I became a proud owner of a Puma courtesy of Ebay. Not only that, today I also had my first sit in a Puma, and my first experience of driving a Puma - 40 miles home without a hitch.

I own a BMW Z4 Coupe, and from time to time love to take the car on track as I live close to Brands Hatch and I still have a parent who lives close to Cadwell Park. Fast and challenging as the Z4 is I am trying not to put too many miles on it, not to mention the fact that I wish to avoid placing it into a tyre barrier any time soon. Hence I have been looking around for something sporty which can do track duties in time. Not only that but I am keen to learn how to be handy with a spanner and the last thing the Z4 needs is me working away blindly on it - for now I will leave that to the specialists.

2am last night (no work today) I am running through Ebay and come across an 02 1.7 car, only 88000 miles, next to no rear arch rust (I did my homework quickly), and from what the description and images can tell me, only a few major issues: deep scratches/dents on the rear quarter, 1 rumbling bearing, one tyre very close to legal limit and 3 days of the MOT left. It's up at £180 Buy it now so I have a look at how the Puma performs on track courtesy of the interwebs, put in a cheeky offer of £130 and go to sleep.

Long story short I just came back from collecting it. Clearly I love an internet gamble when it comes to inexpensive cars.

Having owned an E30 BMW and an MG ZS 180 in the recent past I have always been thankful to the internet forums I have joined to keep those cars on the road, and I hope this one will be no different. Simply wanted to say I am looking forward to meeting you all. Who knows, perhaps someone here has owned the car in the past?!

Oh, and just to reassure you regards my track day plans - other than lowering it a little and sorting out the bodywork the car is going to appear completely stock - anything I do will be under the skin and the car will remain on the road. I might even take out the current MP3 compatible stereo and place an original back in. Trolley jack ordered and over the coming months all of the above issues will be rectified.

Pauly

Hi and welcome. Nice introduction - I was contemplating a Z4 coupe a few years back but couldn't quite stomach the running costs. A great looking car though :eek:k:

Hi and welcome!

What makes you think you're Z4 is so special?! :p

(Sorry, had to get that out of my system!)

Welcome Pauly! Plenty of advice contained within, good luck with your plans :eek:k:

P.S. Good going on the E30 too, used to have a rather rare c27 Alpina Touring, loved that thing...

Thanks all - nice to meet you.

G-Whizz - I have already noticed your "If I can do it, you can" thread...and will be delving into it myself:

:eek:k: There are others far better qualified but it's useful as a starting point if you just beginning to do your own stuff, as it collects the relevant how to's etc. (by those who really know) in one place... It's all their work, I'm just a librarian
