Hi all
Just joined this morning so still looking around
I picked up a 2000 1.4 puma on Saturday, 34k f/s/h, new battery, new tyres, mint bodywork, smooth engine and lovely gearbox.. I was given it for free from my partners aunt as she’s stopped driving and, since I have a collection of classic fords she knew I’d look after it
Anyway I’ll keep looking around and hopefully I can pick up some tips and advice along the way

Bob

 Sounds like a good aunt that!

The car looks like it's in good shape, clearly kept it nice

Hi all
So I’ve been driving the puma for 3 months and I love it, gets me to work, the kids swimming on a Saturday and some backroads on a Sunday :-D
I’ve just bought a 1.7 with crusty arches for the track..
Is there anything I need to do to help it last at least a day on the track?

Hello! It depends, you could do one and see if you like it, or you could just start doing a bit of prep.

Most people start with the basics:

Brakes are well serviced (Good discs, pads, free moving pistons, recent brake fluid)
Tyres have good tread
Suspension top mounts aren't too worn (knocking over bumps)
Rubber bushes aren't too worn (wishbones, rear beam etc)
Drop links are in good shape
Oil change
Air filter

Once you're happy you have a good base then you can start to think about other modifications like:

Weight loss (chuck out the rear seats etc)
Lowering
Strut braces
Brake upgrades
Uprated air filter
Exhaust system

Good luck
