last year i had a leak at the thermostat housing replaced and fixed then i noticed when you drive approx 4 miles car starts overheating needle creeps up into the red.I went back to garage checked everything still over heating ,they finally took the engine to bits and put back together seemed to fix itself , well this year coolant leak again from thermostat housing leak fixed and yet again overheating after you drive approx 4 miles fan comes on when the needle goes above half way . i was wondering could it be an air lock as the coolant has been removed both times i have had this problem ,also the car will sit still and idle all day long if you let it and will not overheat

fixed it myself turns out the 1.6 zetec se is famous for air locks when you have had work done on the cooling system the answer is to have the system vacuum filled no more airlocks
