Hi there, my names Luke.

I've found this site on google after searching for a owners club! im considering buying a puma for my second car. At the moment i have a honda s2k, but i want to keep the milage down, and i dont like parking it up in some shitty places i work so im after a car to replace the punto i currently have.

My punto is a t-reg with 110,000 and is getting worst and worst by the day! its about to dye i think. anyway i want to replace it with something with a little more omph and something that looks nice.

Ive always loved the looks of the puma and thought that this mite be the perfect time to get one.

How do the engines cope with the high milage ive seen allot of them with on autotrader? are they fairly reliable? does the car have any compon parts with any other fords? just thinking it would be cheaper/easeir to find parts if there were.

Welcome to the site!

The 1.4 and 1.6 engines are from a fiesta if I remember rightly. The 1.7 engine works slightly differently and is the most common.

The chassis of the Puma was based on the MK4/5 Fiesta also so there are other common parts. Most interior is interchangeable.

Brakes can be upgraded by direct swap for those from a ST150

Wheels from other Fords also works well, the Mondeo Zetec wheels spring to mind.

As with any car as i'm sure you can appreciate reliablity always varies. It depends how high mileage you are talking also.

If the engine has been well looked after i.e. service history and reciepts then this is a good sign that it will last longer.

Taking it for a test drive, checking all the fluids are correct and that it is running smoothly will also see you well.

We have alot of useful information regarding models/common questions in our FAQ area. Please feel free to use any of this information.

Hi Luke, and welome!

Red beat me to just about everything I was going to say!

Welcome Luke :)

You should be able to find a fairly low mileage one for not alot of money, as there are lots about. They cope as well as any car with high mileage - just try to get as comprehensive a service history as possible, taking special care at the cambelt renewals for a 1.7* As mechanical parts are mostly fiesta, they are cheap and plentiful. Even the 1.7 specific engine parts are plentiful too. Just look on ebay and you'll see,

Hello and welcome to the site. I'm sure you would love a Puma! I get a great deal of fun driving mine and would love to cover more miles in her!

Mine crossed the 100,000 mark the other day. The joys of the analogue dash means that I've now only done about 70 miles :D

As with any car really, with higher mileage expect to either see more comprehensive service history or expect to find some surprises lurking and pay accordingly.

And welcome to the site, it's good fun here.

I've been away for a reply, so sorry i've not replied!
