In a place of confusion, too many projects
As I've said before, I know it's not a puma but it will growl like one when she's done. Hopefully these should work........

LOVE IT!

I had a F plate XR2 in 1998 (so 10 years old then!), lovely, uncomplicated, fun little car..... I can imagine yours will be a whole lotta fun with a nice Puma 1.7 heart in it

Look forward to this one.

yip, hands up, I'm in the 'several' catagory  and loved them, especialy MkI's and MkII's

Should be an excelent bit of fun when it's finished....keep us posted!

Awesome project mate, loving this one, ill be following the progress on this one. that engine is at least 10 years newer then the car, but it doesnt look out of place! How have you mounted the gearbox side, have you used the puma box, or come up with something else?? Have you decided where your going with management yet?

You need to be careful with this one, keep it looking original, if you put the wrong wheels on or do the wrong mod, it will spoil it! dont think a set of chrome spinners and whale tail spoiler will go down well!!!!

Pmsl brilliant.

No I plan to keep the outside looking as standard as possible. On the back end it's got a pair of 16" pro race 1.2's which really suit the car, need to find an odd one that someone's got to complete my set.
Not sure with the management want to go down the dta route but it's quite pricey and I ain't got the funds ATM.
It's the standard puma box with standard xr2 mounts, drive shafts and gear linkage, just got to make a contraption up to deal with the clutch, need to go from a cable to hydraulic. Any thoughts?

might not be much help but I don't know of any cars which have a cable to hydraulic clutch (doesn't mean there aren't any) but I have come accross a few with that sort of set up to opperate the handbrake if they have rear disks :)

Might be worth an investigatory trip to your local car breakers

I'd second that... less would definitely be more!

Looking good so far, and like many others, I'll be keeping an eye on you! :pose2:

i dont think it would be much work to retro fit the hydraulic system to the fiesta, what is the servo like on it? Im sorry, i dont know a lot about pre 98 fords! Probably why im intrigued with this one!! I can definitely reccomend the hydraulic handbrakes, saves a fair bit of work, but then you already have a breaking system in place, so id immagine you want to concentrate on getting the engine in and running 1st! The other option would be fit the puma bell housing to a fiesta rst gearbox. That would then take some of the cheaper uprated RST clutches that are quite good, and then keep the original mounting point & gear linkage, if you wanted, you can fit the puma internals in the rst box.

The puma bell housing is the problem and I didn't know if the xr2 one would fit on the engine could try it I spose everything else has fitted thus far. If I were to put the hydraulic clutch set up on the xr2 it would involve a new pedal box and there is very little room behind the engine once the exhaust is in there. I've hopefully got the bits to make something up now as I've bought an frp clutch pipe and a remote master that should be the right size internally to operate the slave correctly.

Back onto the management, I might try and have another go at getting the original loom and ecu in there so I can get it running and see what it's actually like to drive, once the exhaust is done as well

I dont know about the xr2 box, but i know the rst box wont fit the puma engine because the starter is on the front bottom, but the puma is front top, so youd need to put a puma bell housing on the BC box, weather it be an XR2 or RST.

Its a learning curve, im sure youll come up against other obstacles that youl have to find a way around, its all part of the fun!!

Yes, just along with the others above, you MUST keep it as standard XR2 as you can on the outside! ..... but with that cat's heart in there, you won't be beaten at the lights by Saxo VTR drivers (something which could happen with the original 96hp motor!)

96hp to 123hp (plus any mods you do), plus I'd guess a sleight weight loss compared to the Puma should give you quite a spritely little XR2 there!

Lol you say that, but I did have a saxo try and race me away from the lights with the original engine, the look on his face when I pulled away from him was brilliant. Though I think that was the last hu-ra for it as I had to lip it home, once out of sight mind you

Not posted on here for a while, waiting for some free time to appear from nowhere to do work on her.
I do have most things I need now, brought some vibratecnics gearbox mounts, as mentioned above new air filter, new front wings, front panel and front cross member, made some inquiries about exhaust tubing and the like to make up my own manifold and designed how I want it to be. Just gotta start saving for the exhaust bits and stop spending it on the missus' Ka project thing I'm doing, poxy thing that is! Anywho I'll leave it there till I have more pictures to show. Speaking of pics here is the entire album on fb

Keep the updates coming, im considering a vibratechnics gearbox mount myself, im just not sure if im keeping the box ive got at the moment so its on hold
