So was planning on taking the car today but turns out the batteries lost too much charge, fetched some leads and fixed them up to the wifes KA but wasn't having any of it :-( guessing the engine sizes are too varied. I should of renewed my gem cover before November anyway so brought another years cover today and will get it sorted Monday

Should be just fine to jumpstart from a Ka, engine size won't make a difference too much. So long as you have the Ka engine running. If you can get someone to hold the KA engine rpm at about 2500-3000 that will help. If that doesn't work something else would be wrong.

That's what I thought, made sure connections were good and negative went to earth on the puma but no joy, cold wouldn't have helped, batt warning lights showing and no leaks or anything so pretty sure just needs a kick, perhaps the leads were duff. My old man said I can have his maypole charger as his never needed to use it. Tickle charge but will get us out of similar spots when no one else's around.

I managed to bump start a VW polo once for a lady where the battery got so flat the ignition lights faded. That happened because she let her kids use the radio for too long. Took a few goes but we got there in the end.

Let us know how you get on - it really should have started being hooked up to the Ka.

So good and bad news. Good news; batteries checked with meter reader and it's fine, bad news it's some other electrical issue (no wonder jump start didn't work)

Thought I'd found it when I pulled the fuel pump fuse and saw it had blown, didn't notice I weren't hearing the normal whine with the ignition in position 2, replaced with 15amp fuse (closest I had) still didn't start (can hear pump priming but maybe on its way out? ) car got little under quarter tank of petrol, its not the immobiliser central locking and all lights/dials work don't think an earthing issue (or jump start from ka would have worked) its turning over so not starter motor I'm guessing, likely culprit be the coilpack (have replaced this only last year and decent ngk brand) crankshaft sensor? Is there any fuel cut off switches that may have activated? At a loose end with it at mo :(

Fuel cut off is in the passenger footwell to the left. Switch should be pressed down, it pops up if activated.

You can check coil pack by getting someone to crank engine and take each lead out and hold it against the side of the head and watch for spark. Just do one lead at a time, should only need to crank for 5 secs or so for testing each lead.

You can also check for fuel by taking a spark plug out (if poss) and looking down the bore. The piston will be a bit wet if the engine hasn't fired.

Cheers mate.

Red fuel Cut off button is still down, there's no whine at all now with key in position II, I have heard the earth for the pump can also be an issue and this is located near the rear light units? Could it be the earths just the issue or if I'm hearing nothing then I definitely need a new pump? Sorry for the novice mechanical questions. Will get Ian G to hopefully post me the correct one if so (I know there's 3 different models and need to ensure you order the right one!)

I've had it in some cases where the fuel pump doesn't prime but not when you first get into the car and turn the ignition.

I've not personally had a problem with earthing and a pump. I'm also not 100% sure and couldn't confirm that the pump is earthed at the rear lights. If it does the earth it's fairly obvious after the carpet trim is pulled away, if you still have that.

You've probably checked but has it blown the fuse? There's also a relay in the Aux fusebox which if I remember right is the bottom left relay looking at the box from the passenger side of the car. Is this clicking when you turn the key to position II?

you're right C164, not checked whether this had blown as well after replacing F31. Does the fuel pump delay consist of more than one fuse and would you know the ampage? Probably just grab a load at lunch. You've been a great help bud, this project thread has turned more into a 'Help me' thread lol

As far as I was aware there's only 1 fuse for the fuel pump and it's 15amp IIRC. I'll check though.

It's a 10amp (as you may already know from re-reading the posts). You must be on post March 2000 wiring I'm guessing?

Engine management is 15A, F30 as well as F33 which is a 3A.

Might be worth checking those too. Could also try leaving the battery disconnected for a while, re-connect and see what happens.

Could also be the power hold relay playing up. A lot of stuff goes through that. C168 on your diagram there.

Difficult to say what to try/do without having the car in front of you! Just remember try one thing at a time, don't change two things at once :wink:

Yup post march wiring, car was built May 2000.

Its getting towed to the garage tomorrow morning, fuel tank bolts and bits totally disintegrated upon removal!

Good idea.. Or the escort cosworth one is suitable. Sytec do one that's pretty reasonable. It's the one I swapped to for the engine conversion and never had any problems (touch wood!)

So got it back from PerformancePuma last week, had a Fiesta RS Turbo Fuel Pump Fitted and fresh petrol tank bolts/mounts, also had the battery relocated (originally wanted it behind the passenger seat right on the floor but as my seats are fixed there just wasn't room so had to go up a bit and bit further back), also had rid of all the original brackets from the shell (seats/jack ect) and a new instrument cluster screen (as mine had somehow got mouldy spots trapped between both panes) full service, all filters changed and new oil.

Took it over to my parents couple days ago for a bit of diy plasti-dip fun, bolted in a used omp rear brace from a breakers, stuck on a vinyl L-plate (legal size this time) and holesawed the rear bumper (still got loads of bits od masking tape over the body and she's dirty but nevermind)

With #trackaddict at Rockingham today and managed an almighty, wait for it.. 10 miles of tracktime! :'(

Don't know when it started (did Southend to the venue on 1/4 tank so no probs there) but my petrol tank had/has a severe leak, did 3 sighting laps, when on my second proper lap someone got red flagged and once I pulled up at the paddock noticed a constant dipping from beneath, game over (hope I didn't dump much on track)

Got flatbed relay recovery from Corby to Cambridge Services, then onto Southend, took a long time especially with them limited to 54mph. Was great catching up with Alan and had a good passenger session with him while recovery was on its way, the quaife diff is lovely!

Oh rubbish.

I had this happen to me on the road, it happened when I was filling up and towards a full tank fuel started pouring all over the floor - was a perished fuel filler pipe for me.
