Hi all

Just picked up a 1.7 puma.
My first car was a mk4 fiesta, have also owned a modified mk5 ZS so have now completed the set.
The puma is replacing my tired old transit on daily driver duties to keep the miles down on my Mk1 Focus RS.
Saving for a house so won't be karting for a while, so seemed pointless keeping the van, especially as it was getting old and tired. Always thought I'd replace it with another fiesta for cheap motoring, but this came up and I couldn't resist.

78k miles
aircon still nice and chilly
all electrics seem to work

To Do
Tax
Service - for peace of mind
Cambelt & Water pump - seller hadn't changed it and didn't know if it had been done previous
Reattach rear view mirror
New battery in remote locking fob - can anyone tell me what it is?
Add a few subtle touches to make it my own

Determined this is just going to be kept neat and tidy as only needs to get me from a to b but people always say that and end up doing all sorts

Moondust silver on props - the classic Puma :)

Steve McQueen was right to choose it over a mustang (in my opinion one of the most over-hyped cars of all time and I'm ford mad)

So taxed and insured today and reattached the mirror although it seems quite wobbly so might try glue instead of the sticky pads.

Noticed a few rattles on bumpy roads that I didn't get chance to spot on the test drive but don't sound anything more serious than a bush or exhaust rattling. All of which I plan on upgrading at some point anyway. Yep, taken me all of 24 hours to plan modifications.

Also spotted that the clock is a bit iffy at displaying some of the numbers so will replace that at some point.

I'm very much looking forward to having a car I can mess with on a budget again

so the mirror fell off

also went to change the battery and noticed that the switch for the unlock had fallen off the circuit board so will treat myself to a soldering iron and break out my electronics skills from school.

Then came out to start the car to go home and nothing, even the clock had gone out. Minor panic before realising the battery terminal had probably popped off. All good.

Hoping to get the car up at the weekend for a skeet underneath and give any rusty looking bits a clean up and paint.

didnt get chance to work on the puma today as ended up painted our ramshackle rally car instead
(charity rally through europe in a car costing less than £250)

and also adjusted my washer jets so they actually clean the windscreen and not the roof.

Someone I know is breaking his brother's modified mk5 ZS so has an exhaust manifold and full system and coilovers. He's wanting a bit more money than I'd want to spend, especially as I can get new stuff of a lesser brand for less money and this was supposed to be a cheap daily after all. Still worry that if I do one or two little things it will snowball

cleaned all the crud out of the numbers on my gearnob. not sure whether to paint them or not?

used one of the tiny screwdrivers you'd use to fix glasses or something and just pushed the nozzles into position and tested until I was happy with them. Could maybe used a cocktail stick or something else

cambelt kit and water pump ordered.

Hopefully having a skeet under the car tomorrow and give it a general tidy up

Got the car on axle stands and there was nowhere near as much rust as I was expecting. Removed the spare wheel and holder and got busy with the wire brush and paint. Decided against putting them back on as the tyre looked pretty past it anyway so will just get a can of puncture foam for the boot.

Also did the brake drums in black (of course) as any other colour looks terrible

Also gave the bay a quick wipe down. I know it's hardly a show car, but it was pretty grubby

will paint the cam cover when I can decide on what colour I'm going to paint the wheels so it matches

A small jiffy bag arrived today

As with all little jobs like this, the first one was easy and the second a nightmare but got there in the end
