So I finally decided to start a thread for my puma project I acquired from ebay whilst sat in a field not thinking I would be the highest bidder about 6 month ago. It caught my eye as it has had an escort 1.6 rs turbo series 2 conversion.

My plans for this were to put on a racing puma fiberglass kit I got off kizza which for meant to be for my first puma which is now the girlfriends. Then tidy up the car in general in, from the engine bay to the wiring loom and look at adding a few modifications to the engine and coolant system. Then get the car on a dyno and see what kind of figures I achieve. Should be interesting as I have no idea what kind of bhp it has at the moment.

The puma's currently off the road until the end off the summer when hopefully most my jobs will be done including the fiberglass kit being on and sprayed ready for its next mot.

Hoping that by keep updating my thread I'll keep on track with the project and can get some good advice. As I have used the forum many times already, as I must admit I am fairly novice when it comes to working on cars. Although by the end of the project I hope to know my way round the cvh engine and the puma shell fairly well as I want to do as much, myself as possible to keep costs down and as I am eager to learn a bit to

Started and done a bit already so thought would post the pics of when I started and where I'm at now

So car stripped and front wings fitted to see how they sit bumper just resting on at the minute. Few rust patches inside but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Looking good there mate :) , are you fitting all the other FRP parts i.e. driveshafts, wishbones, hubs and spacers aswell as I am planning on doing the same on a black puma but the external costs do seem a bit extreme but I guess it is worth it in the end.

Kind Regards,

Puma555.

Yeah was great fun while had it on the road and gave it a good test drive on way home from Essex to Manchester never missed a beat which was lucky as I bought it on a whim and had no breakdown cover. The boost currently running at around 17psi been told can run all day long at 22psi but not attempted to up the boost quite yet. Was a few obvious issues I found on drive back like heating only even when had the control set to coldest which think i might now have solved with new valve. Numerous lights on the dash to, engine management, airbag and door open all on, and the temp gauge not working wasn't ideal. Now sorted the temp. gauge re-soldering the cables and changing the thermostat in the housing which also seemed to sort out my fan that didn't seem to kick as often as would expect. airbag wasn't connected so would imagine that was why that was on to.

Haven't got round to how i'm going to sort out the spacing off the wheels to be honest. bit beyond my knowledge and also wallet if go for the FRP parts if can even find them all. so planning on just crossing that bridge in a few weeks when come to it probably not best way of thinking about it though. Got a pal of mine who hopefully will be able to give me a few idea's. Will post what I end up doing to solve that one or open to suggestions if anyone knows a way that wouldn't cost ridiculous amount?

Few things i've done recently are sprayed the roof lining black took out the dash to try tidying up the wiring loom and find out where the to different looms connect. Need to change my ecu so can fit new locks as only have one key and that doesn't fit the locks on car baring obviously the ignition bizarrely. seems to have original ecu at the moment with chipped escort ecu so would this mean changing the puma ecu wouldn't effect the setup of the car?

Original roof lining as it was
Roof lining foam cleaned and prepped with VHT prep spray
After 3 layers of VHT Vinyl Dye
After final 7th layer probably could of got away with 5 but wanted to make sure had a nice even coat with it being fabric
Plastic trims and sun visor took just 3 coats. think came out quite well looks good all back in the car will upload another picture all back in the car soon

Fabric spray has worked really well I think. It has altered the texture of the head lining so feels a bit rough now but looks well. Took a can of spray per layer on head lining.

Cheers for the offer kieran may take you up on that one when get round to it

Finally got my act together and been able to do a bit more on the puma after having quite a frustrating wet August where not much happened. Had bought a new rad, intercooler and pipework to fit and with a bit of fiddling managed to get all fitted.
Now can focus on getting the front bumper on and then sand down and position panels so can permanently stay on ready for spraying.

Nice. What are you doing with the other parts i.e. the driveshafts, etc are you replacing them for FRP parts?

Kind Regards,

Puma555.

Not sure yet. Been reading up on it and needs to be done properly spacers would just wreck the handling so thinking of taking kieran up on his offer of using modified focus parts to be honest. Was also thinking as its an escort engine would it be possible to use the escort driveshafts?

Im not sure due to the different platform...if you take Kierans up on his offer then please could you tell us your experiances as im contemplating the same thingfor the future.

Kind regards,

Puma555.

Not yet to be honest had to take a back seat over the winter but in next few weeks will be starting again to hopefully have it complete for the summer. Soon as do anything will update straight away with new pictures

Hi just thought I'd put up my final pictures of my project that has now unfortunately seized :-(

Last few things I did were to put rs vents into the bonnet looked good from a distance but need to weld inserts from a escort bonnet to the puma one to do this properly which I would have eventually done. Attached the front splitter but all front end is still to be sanded down before bolting on properly

I've now got an escort mk4 rs turbo rolling shell just missing an engine and have decided the puma engine is going to be donated to this project. Puma RS I will take some pictures when I take out the engine to show mounting points. I don't know how it's been done as I bought the puma with the engine already in.

I am planning on keeping my fiberglass FRP kit for maybe putting on my other standard puma I have in the future so still may eventually start another replica project.

Thanks for all advice people have given me throughout this and I will be popping up on forum here and there with my standard puma.
