It may have been these you have seen. Folks have had real problems in the past with the rear arch replacements he was manufacturing and I believe someone lost a whole heap of money for some light weight panels that he never provided. I bought some of the arches recently and they are ok for what they are, over half the price of importing one's from Germany anyway.

ive seen the quick shift an the rear panels that guy sells an they seem over price to be honest the quick shift all that needs to be changed is the fulcrum point an you get a short shifter just modify the one that's on your car that's all hes doing, as for the panels there beating to shape not pressed an they look a little rough, might just be me but for the price id want something a little more precise.

Yes the panels are obviously not as good as the pressed versions you can get from Germany but luckily the person who is going to be replacing my arches has now seen both types as he did a ladies Puma last year and she had ordered from Puma Schmiede. I ordered from the guy off Ebay first with the intention of returning them if the guy doing the work thought that they were no good. (I know he lists as no returns but he'd have no choice as he is manufacturing a product) As a low figure was accepted on a best offer listing they were under half the price of the Germany equivalents. He said there was a difference but not enough for it to be worth changing them and he is meant to be fussy (Lotus Carlton owners use him apparently and he was recommended to me as being expensive but well worth the extra money) Admittedly mine appear to be in a lot better shape than some of the photo's I've seen of his work so maybe I got lucky!

I bought one of the quick shift levers (not the ones in the link but the same idea) and to be honest I didn't notice much difference. The Puma already has a pretty decent gearshift compared to a lot cars of that age.

It's a pretty simple mod based on the same principles of the XR2 mod that Edd China did on Wheeler Dealers.

Spacer with the fulcrum point lifted, God did that to my xr3 back in the 1990s. Spacer was made out of some 10mm polycarbonate sheet out of a ceramic lab that I was working at. I do miss that car it had some real personality.

To be honest hand beating panels can be a damn sight better than pressed if done right or have good experience an if the guy thats doing the body work was a good panel beater an not just "a guy that can weld" he would make his own panels if he couldn't source what he needed, an I wouldn't be shocked if he's making then on plywood jigs hence there not as neat as they could be. Anyway it's not a big deal filler is your friend  it's just price wise there expensive for what your getting but maybe that's just me since I'm a welder by trade an restore bodywork on cars an I look at it as about £3 worth of steal maybe off cuts that's being used an about 20-30minutes beating the panel maybe less if it's jigged up well.

I'd have know idea to be honest. I just know the price I paid for the arches off Ebay is a lot less than the Body Shop would have charged for making them up themselves. It goes in tomorra so by the end of the week I'll have a fresh looking back end!

You say would have been... so a statement that you never actually asked them? Or did they quote you? If not you may have been pleasantly surprised at what it might have cost, just saying it's always better to ask than to surmise what the outcome is going to be if you didn't. An like I say a good panel beater not your random body shop that just buys panels from stock or has "great filler work" that only the most powerful magnet in the world could find metal behind it lol think we all no someone or a place like this.

No they definitely said it would add more than £40 I paid for both arches to the end cost if they made the panels up themselves. I've only their word for it but both places I went to said the same thing so I've no reason to doubt it. Like I said they (the body shop) were recommended as being expensive but well worth the extra cost as they have a very good reputation. To be fair he did offer to give me the details of another place locally where I could get the work done for getting on half the price he wanted if I was uncomfortable with how much it was going to cost but that really would have been a filler and spray job!
