Found out they are Compomotive CXN2's but aren't made anymore and are really rare I believe.
Just read through the thread...nice work Brian :eek:k: Another vote for the wheels too  Out of interest, how do you find those TA Tech' coilovers for ride, handling, lowering, etc?
Greg
Hi Greg,

The TA Technix coilovers are really good for their price can't really fault them. I used them from day-to-day just make sure you avoid potholes, Assuming your already doing that!

Managed to go by the welder today and the welding is almost done! According to plan it will be done on saturday. Managed to take a little snap when I was there. Also the little metal border that used to be there is back  .

There were a few bits where he needed to weld the structural bits as well as they were rusty. One of which was the photo I showed of the piece on page 3. That was really bad but not the worse! Really can't wait to have the car back and continue onto the next stage of the project

The snap I made while I was there, welder made a lot more pictures also of the inside of the sill. Will hopefully post those pictures saturday :)

There used to be a big dent there which looked like this:

Puma is back from the welder even a day earlier than he promised! Pictures say more than a thousand words so let's go. Sorry for the crap iPhone pictures :p

All the welded bits are sprayed with some normal primer. Just to prevent surface rust. I'd have to say that my welder did a really really good job. All the pieces he welded are hand-made by himself. I think he did very well on the arch especially since this is the first Puma he did.

A side shot :)

Last evening I had a few hours to work on the Puma and managed to disconnect the loom for the rear lights and locks. But everything in a bag so it won't just lay around when respraying. (Can't be bothered to remove the full loom to respray the inside)

He looks like this right now:

IMG_2338_zpsynqpl4km.jpg

Will be going down there today as well, think I'm going to remove those rubber roof strips that sit on the roof (hopefully I don't destroy them.. Anyone have a good way of removing them?)

Back again with an update on the Puma.

Week 1:

Managed to quite a lot these last two weeks. As the last post mentioned I was going to remove those rubber roof strips. Well, that was really easy to do just a flat head and a bit of heat with a heater did the job. Made an overview photo once done, also an overview of our shed where we do things to our cars ;):
IMG_2340_zpsqcr6brpg.jpg

After that I decided to continue stripping the inside. Took the dashboard out and headliner with A and B pillars.
IMG_2348_zpsrmluyi0f.jpg

IMG_2345_zpsvfjxjr7t.jpg

After that I decided to paint the main bits you see when opening the bonnet. These pictures also reveal the color my Puma's going to be! Note: Finish can be better but engine bay is hard to paint when the engine is still there, and I wasn't planning on getting the engine out for this.

IMG_2361_zpsncvu18e8.jpg

IMG_2362_zpskitdktr3.jpg

This was all done in a week, which was about 1 to 2 hours per day. This is what I done the second week:

Week 2:
This week I went on and continued prepping the inside of the car. I've done things like masking off all the wires and sanding/cleaning the floor even more. Pictures say much more so here we go:

IMG_2365_zpsuv1z1go4.jpg

IMG_2367_zpslgxhkm0d.jpg

Also managed to remove the bonnet and it's hinges:
IMG_2382_zpsak2khj47.jpg

IMG_2383_zpsuupgqync.jpg

So at the end of week 2 I finally managed to respray the inside of the car, something I was really really looking forward to! And it turned out pretty good if you ask me (considering the wiring loom, and glass was still in the car)

IMG_2387_zpsaxom2jcw.jpg

IMG_2390_zpsuhztevvx.jpg

IMG_2393_zpswgbttder.jpg

The last few days I was busy refitting the dash and respraying some interior parts in preperation of refitting the headliner etc.
Used this awesome project my brother was using for his plastic bits. Gives a really nice OE look straight out of the can.
IMG_2405_zpsotf3g9rx.jpg

IMG_2406_zpsmgoi4ezm.jpg

Structure of the paint can be altered by spray distance, if you spray up close you will have big flakes of structure if you spray from far away you will have an almost OE finish.

For my A and B pillars I used VHT Vinyl Dye. The stuff I used previously on my doorcards. Really great stuff, does smell a bit ;p
IMG_2407_zpsjgcieoer.jpg

IMG_2408_zpsixmcpwvr.jpg

An almost finished dashboard in the car, thought I was missing a connecter which tends to be the front heated screen after all. Seems to be like a pre-fitted loom since I don't have a heated front screen.
IMG_2415_zpslbq6laa2.jpg

And at last I ordered a few new clips that I destroyed will stripping the car down for the inside respray. However didn't make a picture of that (Not that interesting after all)

Till next update!

Good work man. Not sure what the paint will look like in the end, I'm curious :) Good to see the progress, well done.
Btw, looks like a nice red Escort you got there too !

Looks very close to Volvo Riviera blue to me, always thought this colour would be fantastic for a puma after it was released.

It's all in the prep and use of good material and it's not the first car we're respraying. Inside of the car is always hard to paint but it turned out great and will most likely be covered up with interior trim anyways.

It does looks really close to that yeah. But the exact color code is a RAL color, RAL5015.

[post]351093[/post] Great work. Looking forward to seeing this finished :eek:k:
Thanks, car will be resprayed 18/19th of June. So I have plenty of time to sand it, primer it and sand the primer smooth ready for some paint. I'm also really looking forward to the finished result!

To give you guys an idea a photo of the front wing, which I painted a few months ago. The front wing is not painted to perfection (due to painting it close to the ground without putting water on the floor) as it was to get a rough idea:
IMG_24291_zps97uewgve.jpg

Still loads and loads of sanding to be done! :D

So, time for an overdue update!

Done lots and lots of things in the meantime. As I'm nowhere near a spray artist or body worker it took a lot longer to get rid of all the imperfections. Such as, the rewelded pieces to blend in with the rest of the car. However after a lot of trial and error I think I managed to get it near a perfect smooth finish ready for primer. Let's continue with the photos!

Being a 17 year old car it contained serveral stonechip marks, scratches and so on. These small imperfections are near impossible to fill and sand with a normal body filler. So for this I bought a primer which will fill these small imperfections.

photo_2016-05-22_21-29-41_zpsidzzssyl.jpg

In this photo you can see dings and dents on the lowest point of the arch, this is what I meant with trial and error and not being a body worker. This bit needed a bit more body filler which will get shown in another picture!

photo_2016-05-22_21-30-13_zpsqwdp2qti.jpg

Now the car was painted in fill primer it was time to sand it back to 400 grid using wet and dry sandpaper. This created a smooth finish so that the regular primer can stick to. So after a few hours of block sanding and reshaping the rear arch we decided to use a few coats of fill primer once again but just for the rear arches.

Once given a few coats of the fill primer it now looks really smooth and feels really smooth. Not the best photos to show but you have to believe me for this time :p
IMG_2506_zps91une66m.jpg

IMG_2507_zps31xinlbu.jpg

The car was now ready for it's final coats of primer before basecoat. We made sure that the bonnet has a thick layer of primer to prevent stonechip.

photo_2016-05-22_21-39-30_zpsyhtqtnln.jpg

The rest of the car got approximately 2-3 medium-wet coats of primer. Some action photos of my brother spraying on the primer:

Now to what I have done today. To make the paint process easier when painting the full car we sprayed the inside of the bonnet and tailgate. Meaning we only have to paint one side when painting the rest of the car and not having to flip them over. Still really love this color and I'm really happy with the result of the inside bonnet and tailgate! Here are some pictures:

Detailed picture:
IMG_2522_zps4zsjb9th.jpg

I now can't wait to paint the outside of the car. What I learnt today is that I need to lay on the coats even thicker to get a better and more shiny result of the can. I'm just a bit scared of the runs in the paint... Oh well, that's something for later!

Now it's time to sand down the primer that's on the car. Will be doing this with the wetsand method using 400 grid and 800 grid. Once that's done degrease it thoroughly, remove the all mask ups that survived lots of coats of primer and mask it up again (after checking for overspray ofcourse and removing if needed)

Next update will hopefully show you guys a painted car! Can't wait

I think this color will be nice, curious to see final result. Which rims will you have on it in the end? Painting yourself is hard and turns out well so it seems :eek:k:

Final result will have to wait for a while since I'm currently busy with school and things. So the respray of the car will be delayed with a few weeks.

I currently have the black Borbet Type E's on the car. But I'm on the hunt for another set of rims. Looking for a nice set of Compomotive TH1 or TH2's. Althrough these are hard to find :-(

Bit of an overdue update but previous weekend I managed to do a few things to the Puma. I restonechipped the sill so that it can be painted blue when we'll be respraying the car itself. Underside looks really clean if you ask me, however it will be painted blue with a topcoat (not with a spraygun though but with brushes).
IMG_26001_zpsij5tg8lj.jpg

After that was all done I decided to push the Puma outside to see if the arch is as flush as I can get it. Outside there is a much better reflection with real light. Made the arch wet and looked at the reflection and it looked perfectly fine if you ask me.

IMG_26021_zpsb7wembyr.jpg

Also sent out my steering wheel to be retrimmed. Will be retrimmed in black quarters and top and bottom matched to orginal material. Will be a lot less boy racey than the red zetec s steering wheel it currently has. Also bought new floormats in standard black aswell. The previous ones with a red border as the red steering wheel doesn't match the blue very well

And now for the best news! This weekend the Puma will be painted! - Will be making the spray tent tomorrow and might spray the bumpers, tailgate, mirrors and bonnet in color, then on Sunday the car will get painted. Exciting and a bit nervous at the same time.. Watch this space!

After a long period it was finally time to paint the Puma. We painted in two sessions, the first one was on Saturday. Before we could paint we first had to make a spray tent and thoroughly degrease the surface. After that we mixed up the paint and started spraying! I'll just let the photos to the talking.

We let the paint cure for ±18 hours before we needed to move it and make room for the car. This was today and it was quite a busy day to say the least! I had taped down most of the thing like the 1/4 windows and front screen. But we also needed to tape down the doors and tailgate so that the paint doesn't mist inside.

Haven't made much pictures of the spray-process, but I did made pictures of the results. We needed to push the car outside because the car is painted at my uncles place (across the street) and I wanted it gone there before monday (because he has to run a business and probably needs the space). When it was outside we decided to make a few pictures. The color is really really popping in the sun!

I'm really really pleased with the end result! And now can't wait to make the Puma complete again. Hopefully the Puma will be driving this or next month! Not in a hurry though as the car is currently sorn anyways. I do have to wait for a few parts to arrive as well. Will be giving the Puma a good compound/polish next week or the week after to eliminate the dust particles that got into the paint.

Looks like you've done a great job with the spraying. Looking forward to seeing it put back together.

Looks dope! I've finally managed to read through your whole post, nice seats btw. Painting job looks great now, personally I love the standard Moondust color for the Puma too but now you really got your own original twist to it. Will catch attention on the road no doubt.
