Good result and yes the new MOT certificate is funny......."buttercup" went through today as well, no advisories

Down side....front ABS sensor ring/sensor destroyed itself on the way home :-( oh and the starter motor is sticking as well...hey ho

Pushy pushy...I will get there......soon.

BTW how good were your emmissions? mine were so low they barely got on the scale....and they reckon older cars are bad :?

Although if it turns out I need new front sensors/rings etc mine may well be up for sale soon especially as I believe the hubs have to come off which means new bearings as well :-(

Days work. Wheel bearing £30 and I pay a local mechanic I know £10 to use his press and do my own wheel bearings. Most will do it for you for £10-£20 then fit all again. Easy.

i know in theory its easy "roadwarrior" but my car budget/fund for the year is only around £300 and a large chunk of that has already gone on the new tank, drop links and MOT, add in insurance and road tax and it becomes a bit harder..but yet to look at the extent of the damage so will wait and see

You'll be paying out £800-£1,000 for a decent car that'll last you a couple of years. If you're going to buy a £400 car with a 12 month MOT, then you may as well just keep the Puma as it'll be a bag of nails which is either on a surepass MOT or passed by the skin of its nose. If you want a good car with no work, buy a £1,500-£2,000 one and have a qualified mechanic go over it prior to purchase.

Looking for wheel bearings and such and came across this on fleabay
Complete hub kit with "built in sensor"

How does a built in abs sensor work on the Puma?

Finally got out to the garage tonight to inspect the damage.............anybody want to buy a Puma?

Well go look somewhere else because mine is staying just where it belongs ;p

Believe it or not all the noise and subsequent ABS illuminations were caused by a bloody nut!!! picked up from somewhere, probably from the garage although I always clean up after any work, said nut however had dropped between the hub and the sensor ring and as I was always going forwards it slowly forced the ring away from the sensor.
Now of course i have the slight problem of getting the ring back to where it should be (it has no damage luckily) but I can work on that, for now I will ignore the ABS light and enjoy the car with its 12 month MOT
Rejoining my local classic car club is first on the list then take her out and let people see her

Good, just the 'new' starter to go (£25) and you're good to go.

Not sure if you've seen this - free Puma Starter Motor. It is some distance away from you, though...

Ragamuffin Ford puma 1.7 starter motor reconditioned. never fitted still boxed Shrewsbury

Good news on the ABS Sensor, though.

Thanks guys, Shrewsbury a wee bit away sadly but for the moment I carry a "persuader" and yesterday it worked fine anyway so will leave as is for a while, regular use may help a bit
Tax from May 1st and we are on the road

My 2001 Puma had passed mot without advisories as well at the end of December, I felt like one of the best Christmas present :) Only downside is this year probably will be something bigger.. Still that feeling was great :eek:k:

Just dug the RX out after being in hibernation since Oct last year. Had it sorned as I wasn't using it & had no need to use it really. Why I keep it I don't know. Anyway, off to MOT today as it actually ran out last month (oops).

Decided to take it back to my old Puma MOT station i.e. the local council depot, how weird, no advisories unlike the last 2 years that had them using a normal garage even though I've not done anything to the car & it's only done 224 miles since March 2017 MOT mileage & 630 miles since March 2016.

I knew they were doing something against my advice as both previous times they had advisories for the EML, plus an apparent oil leak. My driveway/garage is free from oil & my engine light never comes on when I start/drive/stop it (correctly).

No idea what the other garage was doing or trying to achieve which is why I took it to the council so I get a "pure" test. Plus it's much more relaxed I find, don't know why I stopped using them as they're cheaper too.

And yeah, test "certificate" is more diluted than ever. I miss the old ones as they look more official than the current & previous printouts. I guess as it's all electronic there's no real need for anything but a printout.

Forgot to mention the other downside to "buttercups" MOT........it seems I may have bought another project that was sitting in the MOT centre looking sorry for itself...oh dear :-(
