Hi Alex
Air leaks on the intake side are pretty easy to diagnose as when you rev the engine up the revs hold for a little longer than they should before returning to normal so I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem but it seems alright now and as a 1 in 2 year occurrence I'm not particularly worried about it.

Well it's been nearly two months since my car turned a wheel but it seems to be holding up pretty well after Rob's (Robyorks) good advice about the regular use of polish. This years summer has turned up a couple of strange things though. The first one is the alarm sticker on the drivers side window. The sun seems to have burnt it as the white is starting to go brown now and as well as this the black backing to inside of the rear lights on the drivers side is turning grey. This is probably no coincidence as the car lives outside and the drivers side is always towards the sun where I park it in the drive

Image

My scrapper Thunder is nearly stripped now with just the engine, box, panels and suspension to take off then I'll cut it in half and let the local Bulgarian scrapman take it.

Image

And continuing my effort in trying to have every possible spare part for the Puma, James (XAF) got me the outer door seals brand new (not cheap) but now probably getting pretty rare.

Hi Barry your Puma looks great as ever.

Very useful to have the scrapper for spares. If I had the skills or the space i’d do the same. What do you think about saving Puma windows? I’ve seen some side windows for sale but not sure, as will be awkward to store. I’m assuming windows/screen will be unique to the Puma and will be pretty scarce in future? But then I suppose the classic car community must be able to find aftermarket glass somehow.

Hi Will
Yes this is the second Puma I've stripped for spares now as I reckon it's the only way to keep a modern car on the road as a lot of the electronics are one off to that vehicle and will be completely unobtainable in just a few years time. As far as the glass availability goes apparently rear windows and rear side windows are unobtainable new already but I have a spare hatch and two sets of front and rear side glass. Windscreens, hopefully, are a different matter as you can still buy windscreens new for Ford Anglia 105es and escorts etc.

Not done much on the Puma lately as I've finally got the motivation and time to do some more work on the Westfield I'm building {not my blue one) but found out the other day that my local garage might stop doing MOT's soon so booked in my Puma for this Wednesday. All the lights etc are working ok but this winter I haven't been driving the car up and down the drive to de-rust the discs so I set about them with a drill and wire brush.

Image

I'd also noticed that the bonnet safety catch had just about seized up so I gave that a good spray of WD40 and wiggled it till it freed off then gave it a blast of spray grease to keep it free.

Took the Puma for it's MOT today and it passed with flying colours, even the dreaded emissions test but I had to get the cat well warm and it was great to see the red numbers on the screen scrolling down until they went into the black. The CO was nearly up at .4 and the lambda 1.009 before they counted down.

Image

Underneath the car is still looking as good as it did four years ago when I finished bare-metalling it and then properly undersealing it.

Image

Image

The only comment the tester said was that the lower power steering pipes are starting to get corroded but I have a plan for that when I get the power steering pipes off my scrapper Thunder I'll take them to Pirtek and see if I can get them re-made but with better quality materials.

My boot won't open other than getting inside the boot and pulling the release lever with a screwdriver. Tried wd40 on key without a result and key fob works on central locking. So I am thinking the solenoid has failed.
On the last time it opened using the boot lock , a few weeks ago, , I had to press the button in quite a few times and the solenoid was whirring a bit.
Any ideas guys? And if you agree with my thoughts about the solenoid, I can't see one on Ebay so I bet they are tricky to source.
And then I think the fitting is a tricky job as well, starting with needing rest bumper removal.

If I may kindly suggest to move that kind of question to a relevant part of forum? This is a project thread about particular car. There are other sections meant for the very purpose you need: to ask, get a response etc and to be searcheable in the future should anyone else have a similar problem...
Moreover, there are already some discussions along these lines...

With the promise of a fine day today I decided to finally get around to fitting my new drivers side door handle that Andrew had found for me at Ford Fair last year. The existing handle was well past it with lacquer flaking off all over the place.

Image

I had done a practice run on my scrapper Thunder a few weeks ago to make sure it was do-able without scratching paintwork etc but it is a fiddly job especially removing and putting back the lock guard. Anyway after an hour or so I had this;

Image

Then an hour later with much cursing and swearing;

Image

Done and nearly dusted but looking at the door mirror I needed to do something with the paintwork;

Image

So I quickly stripped it down, flatted it back and had a look for the colorado red paint I thought I had in the garage which it turned out that I hadn't got so it looks like I'll have to get some tomorrow but thw weather forecast isn't so good for painting so it may have to wait a bit.

Looks like a nice job on the door handle mate. Does the colour match up OK? It's hard to tell from the pic.
Is Squire's Ford meet coming up soon? Give me a buzz and I will see you there for a catch up.

I finally got my drivers side mirror rubbed down and repainted but no time yet to flat and polish it but it still looks pretty good.

Image

Last Thursday my friend from the Westfield club, Des , Started work on the paintwork of my car to remove the myriad circular scratches. We didn't have much time but I just wanted my boot and bonnet doing before the Squires show as they were the worst panels. Some of the stuff I learned I would have never guessed but Des checked the paint thickness first with his meter to make sure there was sufficient paint and then attacked the paint work with various DA's and compounds.

Image

Anyway by the time he'd finished the car looked fantastic with virtually all the scratches gone and he says when he does the rest of the car he will see if there's enough paint over any remaining scratches to try and get rid of them all.
So I went to the Squires all Ford show today and as per usual it was really busy.

Image

In total there were 5 Pumas there including mine (but no FRP's}

Image

Here's 3 of the others but the last one, a medium steel blue one, I forgot to take a photo.

Last week I went to a classic car show at Crows nest park in Dewsbury and my car was asked about a few times and I saw a few Ford fans looking around the rear wheel arches for rust.

Ooh, wonder if he saw it at Pot House Barry. Either that or it’s infamous!

I took the FRP to a show at Newby Hall last Sunday and it was spoilt by the 2 hours it took to get in so didn’t really take any snaps.

Hi James
I'm just under the impression that he saw you knocking about in the FRP around Dodworth but I could be wrong. I still haven't made a Newby Hall meet yet but I will eventually. This year it was the National Kit Car show at Stoneleigh which clashed with Newby but Stoneleigh was pretty cool so I'm ok about it :grin:

I went to the classic car show at Ripley castle (N Yorks) today for the first time. It was a pretty good show and the car had a good bit of interest shown in it. I also had a lady ask me if I wanted to buy her thunder so I directed her towards this forum as it sounds like it may be a nice one and it may well appear on here over the next few days.

I went to a classic car show at Locke park in Barnsley today. It was another well attended event with lots of varied and nice cars and bikes. The weather could have been better as every time the sun went in it got quite cold. I got situated next to a couple of high powered cars but still I got asked about the Puma.

Image

On Saturday my son and I went to GBS (Great British Sportscars) to see their unvailing of BRAND NEW!!!! MK11 Escorts.

Image

These are not repaired old shells they are brand new from China, adapted to Group 4 spec, hence the arches etc and then fitted up by GBS with brand new 2.5 litre Duratec engines (200bhp and 200 ft/lb) and all other ancilliaries before being put through the IVA test........I really want one!!!!

Last Sunday my son and I went to the classic Ford show at Mallory park which was brilliant apart from the heavy rain early afternoon. A lot of people left early but we hung on in there and the weather improved. This Anglia 105e was a V8 cracker but later on in the afternoon he lost it on the trackday but fortunately it was only a minor kiss into the tyre wall.

Any idea what the damage is for one of those GBS Escorts? One of if not my all time favourite car in wide arch form. Looks awesome!!

As does your Puma of course :ok: . Stance looks really nice with those wheels on it.
