quick querie guys re carrier to hub x4 mounting bolts, was told they were M12 anyone know correct length required so no cutting them down is involved , cheers

I've just done the Mondeo 300mm conversion. I've noticed a few saying that the knuckles should be drilled with a 12.5mm drill.
I didn't have one and used a 12mm. The bolts slipped through just fine :)

ETA: The carrier bolts are 40mm. I had a fun time trying to get Ford to sell me some though. The guy was like, "I need the reg number, I won't sell them without one because I've had too many complaints about wrong parts"
I was like Mate, all mondeos have the same bolts and these are going on a Puma...
He wouldn't order them till he had spent 10 minutes checking the database...when he came back and said, these will be fine, all mondeos have the same.....

cheers mate done this mod a few times on various fords but could not remember the bolt length lol, I will order some high tensile 12.9 M12x40s

Referring back to the escort cosworth and mondeo cosworth style wheels different offset, would the correct wheel spacers sort the handling issue? Not sure I want to pay over a grand for escort ones of I can get mondeo ones for less than £200?

hi i have just ordered off ebay ford fiesta st rs turbo st200 300mm brake calipers with pads and am hoping they will bolt straight on. cost me £50 and some brand new focus 300mm 4 stud discs were £66.00 now on special at £22.00 so cost me £72.00 in total and some violet metallic brake caliper paint should be delivered by 31st aug i will let you know how it comes on great walkthrough how to do the mondeo mk3 system. i also have some mania racing 17" wheels on my puma

I too decided to carry out this conversion on my 2002 1700 puma. I can't recommend it enough! The old brakes I had were Brembo 258mm drilled and grooved. I've just installed 300mm ST170 drilled and grooved discs and the mondeo callipers, both mintex. My god they're good!! Only downside is vibration in the pedal! I suspect it's due to the ABS kicking in OR I didn't bore the calliper carrier holes out straight and there's maybe slight movement in the carrier so be careful anyone. Grinding the callipers and carriers is no fun at all! Still rubs when I'm cornering sometimes, so I would 100% suggest anyone looking to do this conversion should do it AFTER you have a set of 16" rims!! Otherwise it's a c*nt of a job :-D I wish I'd seen this guide before I did the works myself.

Looking to get the puma on to 15's, and it seems like we're going to struggle fitting them over our st170 brakes.

Looks like we may have to do down to fiesta st150 setup for the smaller disc. Would there be any issues with bolt hole sizes etc, considering they've probably been drilled out to fit st170? Hope that makes sense..

i think you'll need new knuckles :)

to drill bigger holes, is not a problem, to reduce a hole size is a problem. all depends on the size of the bolts

They're ~£200 each from ford parts! As far as I've read so far, it's only the 300mm conversion that requires drilling knuckles and not the 280mm. Is that right?

That's right. 280mm ST150's are a straight fit.

If you find some ST200 280mm brakes, they require the carrier holes drilled out to 12.5mm.

If the mondeo disc is replaced with the ST150 one, no spacers are needed. (Mondeo disc needs a 3mm spacer BEHIND the disc)

Ah interesting! So Mondeo st200 carriers and calipers, fiesta st150 discs?

Sounds like a right mix and match!

but a perfect fit.

The piston on the Mondeo caliper is like a cannon barrel next to the Pumas.
The braking is immense,
Though it really needs a master cylinder swap to reduce extra pedal travel.

Also, The ST200 brakes are no different to any Mk1/2 V6 mondeo. (although there are two shapes of pad.)
All 280mm and good to upgrade with.
Best bit..,
Perfect with 15" wheels.

Hi

Somebody have already try to put big brembo caliper or similar on a Puma/fiesta ?

i know caprisport make a bracket kit for brembo caliper .... but it for 325mm disc to big for a Puma

and i search a solution to have the best brake combo with 15 wheel

Dragging up an incredibly old post here... but need some info!

What is the best MC to upgrade to? I run the st200 calipers on st150 discs and there is a bit too much pedal travel for my liking.

Thanks in advance :D

Hello mate.
There's a couple of ways to do this.
It's popular to fit the mo3 Mondeo master and servo. It's not something I'd recommend as although the ms is a bigger bore so less travel. The servo is massive, so there's less feel and it's easier to lock up/kick in and)
Another option (what I did) is to fit the ms and servo off a MK4 non abs fiesta. Ms bore is right, but the servo is smaller, so there's plenty of feel. Also the non abs ms has restrictor valves on the rear circuits so the brake balance is spot on.
As a surprise, I have just broken the track car and have my old ms/servo available.
Sorry for the long reply, but it's not a straightforward answer lol.
Regards, Stu..

Oops, that was supposed to be a reply to a pm.
Anyhow, it's done info on master cylinder options with bigger calipers.

Hi y'all newbie here xD
Would like to know if there are any regular mondeo brakes that i can use and not just the ST170 ones, and also considering i have a 1.6 Puma with no ABS and drums at the back what would be the best setup partswise for a rear disc conversion?
