1.7 Puma Engine Rebuild

Hi all,

Doing an engine rebuild of an X reg 1.7 puma. I've been looking online for parts for the rebuild. A friend of mine recommended trying to get OEM parts as opposed to pattern stuff where possible.

I've checked Burton Power, eBay, Euro Car Parts, and a local company called Ivor Searle in Soham who specialise in rebuilds. The latter used to sell a rebuild kit for the Zetec SE. Unfortunately they don't appear to be available any more.

Is it realistically possible to buy all new parts needed for a rebuild online. Has anyone on here done a rebuild recently and if so where were your parts sourced?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ed,

You can’t get any OE parts for them anymore other than cam seals and cam covers and a few others ancilary items.

Genuine big end bearings, piston rings, head gaskets are all no longer available. You can get a good FAI gasket set with most things in though.

One of the guys on here has worked out a way around this using Suzuki Bearings and a mixture of different rings as they need to be nitrated.

The first ring and the oil scraper are chromed.
