You'd be surprised how quick they are. I drove a mildly tuned and stripped one back in the day and it would do well over a ton and 0-60 sub 8 seconds. The lotus twin cam engine was brilliant for it's time.

Because we are now back in my era I can tell you that a production Lotus Cortina Mk1 would hit 60 in around 10 seconds (Compared to the Ford Cortina Mk1 1500 GT which took 14)

In those days that was really fast.
