Right so after the bodywork repairs I had last year, there's nowhere for the standard handbrake cable clip to fit on the rear sill/floor area.

I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the box section, then fitting a plastic P clip around the cable retained with a plastic pop stud or fir tree fixing.

Has anyone else done this and has anyone got any rustproofing tips for once I've drilled hole? (I was just going to fill it with underseal goo).

Will get a pic once the car is jacked up. Basically it's under the floor behind the door - handbrake cables sag because they're not clipped to body.

I bought a set of handbrake cable p clips from Arnold Clark.
They are the correct Ford type and fit over the pins (assuming the pins are still there of course) on the chassis rails and along the trailing arm.No drilling required.
Try the link below.

Hmm I'll have to have another look but I'm pretty sure I don't have any pins to mount those on. Really need to get around to jacking up and having a look!

No pins that I can see plus it's all slathered in underseal. I'm wondering if I can clamp something onto the bottom of the sill where the inner and outer are welded together? Then come off that and clip to cable.

Ok so what I did in the end was drill the sill seam and put a longish M6 stainless bolt through with a nylock nut on the inside. Big penny washers either side of the seam. Then used the end of the bolt to hold a plastic P clip with nuts either side. Cable passes through P clip.

Before mounting it all I made sure the hole had a few coats of paint to halt rust. Still not convinced it won't be a rust starting point, but I keep it cleanish and only use it in the summer. It's garaged over winter.

If you work towards the back of the car from the new clip you have just fitted there should be a little metal support on the end of the axle to keep the handbrake cable away from the wheels. Is yours still there? If not what have you done instead? As I noticed on one side mine has gone.

No little metal thing on my axle but I think it was from a Fiesta, not sure if that makes any difference. Anyway it did get sand blasted before I repainted it so maybe it got broken off during that... On the axle itself I've used some monster cable ties about 12mm wide and just gone around the whole trailing arm bit.
