What does it mean when the handbrake light illuminates on the dash when you apply the footbrake?

I always thought it was low brake fluid, but I've checked this and it's fine.

Any ideas?

Oh, it's for Zara's car by the way :-D

Cheers,
Andy

I think it is only activated by the brake fluid level sensor, level will drop when pedal is pressed, so maybe a slight topup?

Yeah mine did this and then it started to flicker on and off as I went round corners, mine didn't look like it needed topping up either but it did.. Now it's fine :)

I have this on mine but I know for a fact my nearside discs/pads are totally shot, I'm not driving it again till my new brakes arrive.

if fluid is ok,remove cap and check the plastic float as that might have a hole init causing fluid to go into it giving the switch a fasle reading
