My mums Puma has something up with its blower control.

The one where you would select demist/foot/face etc.

Its a bugger to turn, really stiff, and doesn't change the output.

What might be wrong, and how do I remove the control unit from the console to poke around and fix?

Sorry for the dumb question, I have no workshop manual for the car.

No dumb questions here, we all have stuff to learn.

To remove the heater panel, you first need to remove the radio/head unit. Then you will see 2 screws that secure the top of the heater panel. Once you remove those 2 screws the top of the panel pulls (hinges) out and can then be lifted out.
The panel wont come out too far as the part that is supposed to change the vent output is quite short. That part is held in by a clip and there will also be 2 electrical plugs/connectors.
It should be easy to understand once you see/get behind the panel.

The closest workshop manual is a Haynes Fiesta, they have the same kind of heater control panel setup.

Here's how you remove it though
