They must have a new bored work experience child in again at the Autoexpress offices...

The styling studies were done at Ford, but only at Auto-things request, just to mark the 50th of the original.

It isn't in any way a proposal.

.. to me anything that is 40 year or older is a classic

Thank you for that. Usually I am just called old.

The Mk3 was a crock of poo though. Take it from me, I drove them a lot.

The Mk1 was revolutionary, a real milestone in car development. I have owned a few in my time, but never a Lotus. I wouldn't want one now, it would be such a disappointment.

Er.. whatever Ford 'said' the Mk3 was at least 200kg heavier than the Mk1 and felt it.

I think you'll find very few manufacturers who will say "Here's our new car, It isn't quite as good as the one two models and ten years ago."

The marketing people tend to stop them doing that, even when it is true.

AutoExpress guesswork is the main reason I stopped subscribing.

I'm sure they have a department just for hacking about press photos of the rest of the model range.

As long as they are rose tinted :D
The Mk3 was the 2nd car I learned to take apart before I was ten (the first being a Morris Minor). It belonged to my dad and we spent much time together keeping her running.
It was a *Pacific blue* 1600L, and though being a base model, was streets ahead of any thing we had before. (wasn't exactly difficult  )
