my wife has noticed her car has been lacking power recantly, yesterday we went to the cost and it was the first time i've been in the car to see for myself, it just doesnt rev as easy as it used to and it sounds rougher than it should, i changed the plugs today as the 1s that were in looked like they had been in there along time, no 1 plug was drenched in oil.
i was suspecting the headgasket but the car runs fine just lacks power, its not loosing any water and its not using oil eather, it doesnt over heat, we were sat in traffic for half an hour and the needle never moved from halfway.

so any ideas what it is???????
i havent ruled out the headgasket yet.

far more likely to be the rocker gasget than the head gsaget which fails VERY rarely on these cars... :)

Spark strength is key to performance so maybe get a spark strength testing kit on ebay.... or just bite the bullet and buy a new coil pack!..

i take it there's no coolant leak up from the core plugs then...? leaking into the plug area..?? again this really is no major deal if so.... just don't fit any new plugs until sorted.. ;)

Regards

As eldude says - the source of spark would be a good place to start. Does it still have original coil and HT leads? If it's still on originals then a swap might be a good start.

cheers guys im going to change the rocker gasket just to be sure and also the leads(getting them in next few days) has been suggested from several people the lambda sensor? sounds about right to me my old escort had same symptoms and it was that????
