Many thanks. This is for a mate of mine who I mentioned to about the quality of your stuff, so I'm an 'info passer' on this one.

Looking forward to the evidence soon. I may not say much, but I have been following this thread closely. :)

The engine came back, all nice and clean but more importantly built properly!

Not going to say much as the photos will show most of it...

Got a new crank position sensor as the one above has been shaved off from end float in the crank. The one that's in there is not the one that came out, which was much worse.

The engine builders got all new gaskets and seals, a whole set at a cost of around £450!! Here's the bag that's left..

Got the flywheel skimmed. Here it is, lightened and skimmed.

Got a look in here. You can just see the edge of machining for the modification to allow 360 thrust face for the crankshaft.

New clutch and cover

Wrapped over the thermotec heat tape with aluminium foil tape as it was coming away in places. Foil tape is much more sticky and much thinner so shouldn't peel at the edges. I did the gearshift cables, power steering rack. The inlet was done a while ago.

Starter cables, with inline fuse to protect cable from alternator current down the car. Dan put this in for me.

Had to adapt my oil separator pot as it didn't quite fit, relocated brackets and an inlet..

New drain for the oil separator pot, about 5mm from the driveshaft! But can't move so will be fine. Original one blocked off.

New crankcase breather take off. Wasn't cheap but certainly the best on the market as it has baffles going into the block.

I always make sure hoses aren't touching anything.. e.g. here it looks like the breather hose is resting on the gearbox but it's held about 10mm away by its own form

Breather outlet to atmosphere

Hose routed down the back of engine and supported off the back of the stud for the driveshaft intermediate bearing carrier

The car is now back on the ground, all fluids filled and ready to be started. I had a slight issue in that I couldnt get the fuel pump to prime. Dan bypassed the relay and the pump works so that's good. We think the ECU isn't priming the rail with fuel for some reason, but hoping it will kick into life when the engine goes to start as Dan has had this happen several times before.

Also checked that the engine cranks, very briefly mind, but hopefully this means that the 100amp fuses seem to be fine for cranking.

Big thanks to Dan for helping put it all back together this week. It came apart really quickly, about 6 hours but has taken a lot longer to put back together!

Just going to push it out of the garage and give it a wash tomorrow ready for Monday's trip :)

Thanks guys. Hopefully this means it'll be good to go now and I'll make Ford Fair. I'm also hoping I will have fully run it in by that point and would have seen what the dyno brings. That way the drive to Ford Fair and back will be much more fun

Proper engine porn right there! Glad you have it sorted. Fingers crossed that you have more luck this time around. Its one hell of a car

Having some experiences with your horrible speed cameras, I have to ask: how and where do you have fun? Or, to turn it around, could you define the fun, please?
I have constant feeling that my licence would have very short expiry date in UK if I were to drive there like we all do here?

Sorry for slight OT

There's actually not many speed cameras where I am (I don't speed anyway   )

Around Gatwick, there's many country roads, especially towards the south in most directions  living here means you know when and where it is safe to 'use the speed limits to their potential'.

So don't worry Sinisa, still lots and lots of fun to be had! Also why it's worth getting the car to handle as best as possible. I'm sure you could have just as much fun in a standard Puma on the right road.

Doesn't seem to be too many cameras around to be honest. Only some in built up areas, mostly in places traffic prevents you from even getting to the speed limit.

I know, some places up north have the forward facing cameras and they seem to come out of nowhere. Don't seem to have that kind down here, I think I've seen one.

On the other hand there's always the track.

Hi Brian, unless something catastrophic goes wrong it'll be there! :) are you making a special trip across just for Ford Fair?

Washed it today, so all ready for tomorrow's first start. Going to be a nightmare getting it on the trailer. If anyone has any tips please do let me know! We're going to have to try and push it on

Also polished the exhaust tailpipe with some autosol quickly..

Yep, will be going via France with the ferry to Dover and then drive take a hotel nearby Silverstone. Was there two years ago and really enjoyed it, much better than the shows we have in The Netherlands especially on Ford only shows.

Tips on getting it on the trailer, well I don't know what the lowest point of the car is.. With my brothers Subaru we removed his front bumper and we were fine. With my brothers Escort we didn't remove anything and caused minor scraping on the front splitter. So, maybe you get away with removing the front bumper and else you can make a really long ramp to the trailer :p

It is usually a good show, shame you can't come in your Puma!

I think it'll be ok going on to the trailer, it's the physical ability to be able to push it up the ramps! if it isn't on the trailer in 12 hours time and on the road, that's a problem..

Glad to see its nearly done, bet your eager to go for a drive, be good to see it at ford fair

Well, getting the car on the trailer was no problem after all!

Had a couple of issues before starting, no power to ECU which would explain why I couldn't get the fuel pump to prime. But engine ran fine - took ages to get the air out of the coolant system. They checked AFR and set some limits.

Engine is nice and smooth, sounds quiet. Already done first oil and filter change after 42 miles home Next one will be 200 miles later and 500 after that.

So far, just two slow oil leaks, one from the sump plug (easy fix), the other seems to be from the steel sump pan join so not sure what can be don there, it's slow anyway.

All in all, a good day! Now just hoping for good weather to put some miles on it!

Thanks Barry.

I wouldn't say cheap, but price is ok. Yes to mineral oil, this stuff:

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60229-millers-oils-cro-10w-40-competition-running-in-mineral-engine-oil.aspx

And then switch to a fully synthetic after 750 miles approx :)
