Hey guys, here's my project (hopefully the pics work! Bought my puma nearly 3 years ago for £900. About a year ago I took it on a track day at North Wealds, completely as standard, and it amazed me! So I set out on turning it into a bit of a track day car, but still use it every day (and had a budget).

Here's a pic of 'Poomey' at North Wealds before I made any changes:

First of all the exhaust went anyway so I got a Sportex race tube exhaust, which sounds awesome (does drone a bit on the motorway though).

Then I got an Apexi induction kit, reviews on it are really good. Got some nice Samco hoses to go with it and an Ash oil breather:

Then started on the suspension (with some help from my bf). It needed replacing anyway, and after months of deliberation I finally decided on a KW suspension kit (£380).

Rubbish old leaky rear suspension and old brake hose:

Other side, taking the old suspension off is much easier if you have another person to help:

Shiney new rear suspension:

New Black Diamond braided brake hoses all round:

New front suspension, braided hoses (Yes I put the bracket back on :) ) discs and EBC greenstuff pads

Poomey's clutch had been going since I got her, so she got a new one from Mr clutch, £270 incl slave cylinder. This alone made a hell of a difference, she felt like a new car!

Now for the best bit, custom remap at Sanspeed. She was on 120hp surprisingly, got 124hp out of her and nearly 128 pounds torque

End result: Much better brakes and much better handling. Faster too! awesome, just about kept up with a subaru, a 148hp mk2 escort and a seat cupra sport on an awesome trip to wales:

Forgot to say I had two BfGoodridge G-Force profilers fitted to the front, they are awesome! and have vredestein sportracs on the rear.

When is the next Nurburgring meet? I want to take a mate as his stag do present! He's only ever driven round the track on the PS3!

Cheers

Hi ValW,

Nice project you've got going on and very reasonable money being spent. I'm particulary interested in the suspension setup you went for, the KW kit. What's the ride like? Is it much more uncomfortable and firmer than standard or just a bit? I'm after some honest feedback because I want to change my suspension myself and looking for a good comproise between ride height and comfort.

I'm currently runnning standard shocks with eibach springs (-30mm) but if I went for new standard shocks the ride height will defnitely increase and I'd rather it didn't. The height on your setup is puuurfect..

Soz only just saw your post! I love the KW set-up. The ride can be a bit harsh but I think the main reason behind that is I need to replace the anti-roll bar drop links, just haven't got round to it yet. But it isn't much harsher than the standard set-up I had before that. It's made the handling great though and the car feels so much better going round corners, so glad I went for this suspension! I had been thinking about coilovers, but I'm glad I went with these, because 40mm lower is good for every day use and good for the track too, and I think you get better value for money out of suspension kits rather than coilovers. I'm looking for new wheels now and will post pics once I've got them! Hopefully compomotive FRs or Speedline turinis :D

Yeah, it makes some good noise! Still has a cat, decided not to go for 4-2-1 so that it's still legal without having to pay a silly amount for a sports cat. Just ordered a powerflex suspension bushes kit for it. It has an oil leak so after it's MOT I'll be sorting that out and taking the front suspension apart to replace the wishbones, anti-roll bar drop links and bushes, and also replacing the rear axle beam bushes. Also needs a new CV boot and I've got my eye on some nice wheels. Will keep you all updated with pics

Did you? My hoses came with P clips, which when fitted totally kinked the hoses. I then thought about using the original brackets which turns out will need cutting from the old hoses. The only solution I could come up with was to tuck the hose behind the carpet liner at the bottom, or to make up a new bracket from scratch.

How did you get round this in the end mate?

Oh, mine didn't come with new clamps. I cut the old hose out of it and then bent the clamp open. Put it back on the car, pushed the new hose into it and used a partially cut rubber hose on the inside of the clamp to fill the gap and bent it closed again. :)
